You are going to get two sides.

Half the people on here are going to say it is the worst casino ever, too many kids, it stinks, horrible layout, blah blah blah

Then the other half will say its a decent hotel, kids are not an issue, the smells isnt bad, the layout is easy, blah blah blah.

So just be prepared for mixed answers.

Excalibur will be fine. You have comped rooms in a parlor suite. You will be in Vegas along with the madness of the big fight May 2nd, the Rock in Rio up the Strip, and you will be in Vegas.
    Have a great time.

Looks like you're going in May so kids will still be in school. We stayed there a couple years ago and didn't see many kids. The remodeled rooms were decent, clean, very comfortable bed. The casino is very smoky!

When you usually go to Vegas where do you stay because that's gonna determine your experience. If you regularly stay at the Bellagio you will be highly disappointed.

Exactly, it's all about expectations. Bearing in mind we are 'low rollers' - we stayed there last year, and it was absolutely fine. Room/bathroom was clean, everything worked in it. We found it a convenient location. There weren't many kids that we saw, except at the pool.

We would stay there again. We're definitely going back there this time to check out the new buffet, not that we found anything wrong with the old one to be honest!

I've been to the Excalibur on every trip to Vegas and have never noticed more than one or two kids with parents walking through. It's not like they can come down to the casino and hang out. I've never noticed any strip casino being smokey and have never had an issue with a casino not being decently clean. It does look worn and dated, but I'm not there for fashion. The rooms I have been in were always clean and had no issues with anything. The worst I can say about the property is that you have to WALK a ways from the casino entrance to the tower you may be in and then to your room. Guess it could be worse though.

I stayed there last time I went. The rooms were just fine - halls were quiet. It does have a strong "scent" that I wasn't crazy about - but it wouldn't keep me from staying again. If there were kids there they didn't affect us in the least. We enjoyed the food court and Buca upstairs, there were some nice shops too. Loved the location near NY NY and MGM and the tram to Luxor/Mandalay Bay.

I'm decidedly in the middle on this. I stayed at Excal a couple times years ago, when my friends and I were in college and needed the cheapest (but still acceptable) room we could find. The hotel was totally fine, and there wasn't much of a smell besides smoke, but the casino definitely feels pretty worn to me. It's too dark, but not in a hip way like Aria is. And I still have nightmares about that food court.

Bottom line, I think you get what you pay for, and it's okay if you know exactly what you're getting, but as mentioned above, if you're used to places like Bellagio, you're not going to enjoy it.

I usually play craps at Excalibur each trip, one of the few strip casinos that has $5 tables.... I like the place, it has that "lived in" look to it, being a fan of dive bars older Casinos appeal to me more than the glitzy new places. But then again I have yet to enter a Vegas casino that I haven't liked!

thanks for the replies so far.

Well to answer expectations, i regulary stay at 3 different properties, these are Monte Carlo, ballys and paris.

I play a fair bit in ceasers, or at least used to, but now moving my play to MGM ad as the suite was comped for 3 days i figured it would be worth a shot. I heard that they recently has a renovated buffet and seen some reports that they were pleasantly suprised at said buffet. I dont know about any steakhouses/restaurants there, but mainly just glad that i wont be surrounded by kids.

I think you will be fine. Its probably on the same level as ballys and a slight step down from monte carlo. I haven't stayed there in a long time but I had stayed before and after they updated the rooms. I think the updated rooms are actually really nice for what you pay for the hotel. Always had fun there and they do have a good amount of tables open. The only downside I saw in the gambling aspect was they didn't have too many craps tables, and the ones they did have were usually pretty full. I think they were always kinda lacking quality restaurants and decent bars to hang out and play VP.
Always remember its not like you are gonna stay in Excalibur all the time. Quick monorail trip to Luxor or Mandalay..... and easy walk to NYNY and MGM.

If you like rock music, they have a band that plays at their lounge and they have VP at the bar.

For late nite eating and looking for a steak go next door to NYNY they have a rib eye steak dinner special from like 12am to either 3 or 4am. From 8 or 9pm to 12am they also have (not sure) but I think it's a lobster (tail) and steak dinner for less maybe $12.99.

I stayed there is Nov of 2013 and had a good time. We actually liked it more then Luxor where we stayed in May. They do have a streak house did not eat there and have not heard anything about it. We ended up having our wedding dinner at Bucca de Beppo there and we were very happy with it.
