Last week, my wife and I had to go to Dallas for a funeral. We decided to drive. Our plan on the way back was to get a hotel room in Winslow or Holbrook or some other podunck town in Arizona. However, on the way out to Dallas, I noticed a whole bunch of Casinos dotting I-40 throughout Arizona and New Mexico. One of them is called Twin Arrows and is located about 25 miles east of Flagstaff. So, I thought we could push the drive a couple hours longer from Dallas and check it out. I highly recommend this hotel/casino to anyone looking fo a place to stop along I-40 in Arizona. The room rate for a basic king size was $77 after taxes and the room was beautiful. The best room I stayed at in Vegas was the 1 bedroom and studio at Cosmo, and the room at Twin Arrows was just a notch below that. Wish I took pictures of the room, but didn't. Did take a pic of our desert view though. After we got settled into our room, it was almost 9 PM and we were pretty pooped, but decided to brave the Casino floor for a bit. $100 each. Glad we did as we ended up playing until 2:30 AM. The Casino was pretty small, but had all of our favorite games. Also, since it was a Sunday night, it wasn't too busy. They have one of my favorite games that's almost impossible to find, Cool Jewels. I started playing and everytime I got a good hit, I'd take a picture and text it to my wife. I had a massive hit for about $250 as we were calling it a night, but by then she was right next to me so I didn't take a picture. I was also very tired by then and probably would have forgot to take one anyway. Here's a sample. When all was said and done, we called it a night up about $450. That pretty much paid for out food and gas for the entire trip. Next morning we got up, headed down for breakfast and checked out. I had to go back to Cool Jewels and try again, right? So I did and lost $40. Back to the highway. A couple hours later we were getting closer to Kingman and I knew we would be needing to gas up before entering California. I dropped a few hints at stopping in Vegas "since it's on the way home". Didn't take much effort to twist my wife's arm. We stopped for gas and called Total rewards about getting a comped room. A few minutes later we were all set in the Flamingo, but then my wife asked how about Laughlin instead since it's only 30 minutes away. Plans changed, we got a room in Laughlin instead. Now, we have no luck whatsoever at Harrahs Laughlin. Time after time it's like getting kicked in the nuts. The only reason we stay there in the first place it to make our drive to Vegas a short 90 minute jaunt after a restful sleep. So we decided that we wouldn't play at Harrahs, just crash. We arrived in Laughlin 30 minutes later and strolled into Edgewater, got a couple almost big hits, but basically blah. Went next door to Aquarius for an hour or so. Played some video poker (STP). Got this. By then we were getting tired and we always have the Reuben Sandwich at Tropicana across the street. So we went there and again, was not disappointed. Ended up losing half my ass there, but did have this on STP. Went over to Harrahs about 9 pm to check in. While checking in, we half joke to the check in lady if the room we were getting was for handicapped, because the lsat room we got there a couple weeks earlier was for handicapped. We didn't really notice it until very late at night and didn't bother getting another room since we were just there for the one night. So she assures us that it was not a handicapped room. Great. Get the key cards, head up to the room, go in, check the bathroom, handicapped. WTF? Screw it, we'll just keep it and hope that we weren't keeping somebody who really needs a handicapped room from getting one. Even though we knew we would lose half our asses if we went down to the casino, we went anyway. An hour later we went back up to the room, each half an ass lighter. Next morning, go up, checked out, grabbed Starbucks, headed out to car and got on the road heading south, (Vegas is north). Got back on I-40 heading to Cali. A few minutes later I mentioned that out last chance to go to Vegas is coming up. All we needed to do was hop on 95 north and we couple be there in 90 minutes. Took a little more arm twisting, but 95 north we went. Got to Vegas, parked in the Flamingo parking lot and called Total Rewards. Several minutes later we had a base room with habitat view booked. Went to Platinum check-in. Our room wasn't ready, but we were assigned a room and all we had to do was come back later to pick up the card keys. Went to Casino. This happened next. First machine, 50 play with STP. Got on the board. Had a feeling about a 25 cent STP, but at $5.25 a shot, 20 bucks isn't going to last long. On my 3rd pull, got this. Was starting to feel pretty good about things. Was up a couple hundred within our first hour or so. Decided to play Gigante 7's. I played this exact same game a few years ago in Flamingo and hit the big jackpot for $944. So after about 10 pulls or so, I got 3 large 7's, started the bonus, got 2 green and a red. Held the red. Respin....Red 7 pops up, so now I have 2 red 7's and the 3rd real continues to spin, and spin and spin. Finally stops, red 7. Cash out homey. Now, I'm pretty freakin giddy. Up over 1K. Go find the wife who is playing PaiGow. Walk up to her with a bummed look on my face. Show her the ticket but with only the cents showing. Slowly slide my thumb back over the numbers, revealing the amount. Now we're both freaking giddy. Head back to 50 hand penny STP. Got dealt 4OAK for a cool $125. Jump to nickel Ultimate times. 4 aces w/kicker, X 3. 12000. Took a few seconds to figure out how much that was. BOOM $600. Back to 50 hand penny STP. Another dealt 4OAK for another $125. Played a game nearby that I see everywhere and play from time to time. I forget the name of the game but when you get the bonus, 4 to 6 wheels above the game will spin revealing how much you win, with the top spin being a multiplier or jackpot chance. I put in $20 and after a few spins wanted to get back to STP, so I started playing max. Couple spins later I got the bonus, ended up with the mini jackpot which was only 10 bucks, but when multiplied with my free spin wins came out to a pretty nice amount. By now it was getting late and we still hadn't gone back to get our keys. So we went back to the Platinum check-in and was told that we were upgraded to a Go-room with strip view. Nice. Here's what it looked like the next morning. I think our room was in Donny's nostril. (hmmm, picture not uploading.) The rest of night, about 6 hours, we managed to stay pretty even. I think I lost just over $100, but by the time we called it a night, I was still up over $1500. Next day, got up, checked out, coffee, steered car towards 15 south and went home. My best single day in Vegas was over and the oddest part of it, was that all of the winning was in the same Casino, Flamingo. Although I did win the 12000 nickels in Margarittaville. Same same. Hope you enjoyed it.
