Whether it's the oversensory/stimulation, the need for comps, payouts/limits, do you find yourself using up way more of your bankroll on the strip than downtown?

Other than differences in odds, no. Gambling is gambling. If the trappings suck you in, gambling isn't for you.

Most of our bankroll goes to The Strip.

We usually go for 6 or 7 nights and might do one or two nights stay Downtown (or else just visit Downtown for one night) so The Strip casinos get the majority of our play just for sake of how much time is spent there.

As for Downtown, we go there for cheap gambling and to play some of the older slots so even if the amount of time was even (IE: 3 nights downtown and 3 nights on The Strip) we'd still allocate more of the gambling budget for The Strip part of the stay.

For other things, like: "there is better payback on the slots downtown" while that may be true the actual effect on a single player's bankroll is negligible and most will never actually experience the actual difference in payback.

As for actual comps I would rather have them coming from properties on The Strip than Downtown. If I have to pay for a room I'd rather pay the rates for Downtown for a night or two than on The Strip.

Agree with auggie, we play mostly on the strip. "Gambling is gambling" and I prefer to keep my $$$ with companies I am staying with. Upcoming trip is for 13 days staying 4 CET, 5 MGM, then 4 CET so that's where MOST of our $$$ will be. Usually make a trip DT, Mresort and maybe Orlean's.

I am an equal opportunity p-sser-awayer. Downtown, strip, off-strip I lose pretty much no matter where I go. Don't play any differently based upon where I am.

    Next trip I will win!

    Don't tell anyone but :)

I rarely go downtown. If I do I don't stay for very long. I tend to stay on the Strip.
There's plenty to see and do so I guess I'm what you would call a Strip Snob. :ssst:

I think some are missing sco's point. I don't think she's asking if you're a Strip or downtown player. She wondering if there is something about the Strip that makes you more inclined to lose your head than you would downtown.

last trip to vegas I took equal beatings on the strip and DT. My wife, on the other hand, stayed even on the strip and then dominated downtown in a low-roller kinda way.

    But I digress.

We are pretty disciplined and generally stick to our BR out of necessity since we have a daughter entering college in the fall.

However, the countdown is on for our tuition fundraiser next week! Cheers!

    strip gambling

Generaly do video poker and table games downtown or off strip casinos.
We go to the strip for the some of that vegas vibe, people watching or shows. the gambling on the strip, except for sports does not light my fire.

My bankroll is used primarily where my comped room is. I will bet elsewhere, sometimes significantly, but the increase would be related to booze more than location.

On my last trip, booze and good playing conditions converged as I discovered the best non single deck BJ rules downtown at the Golden Nugget party pit. The rules included ample dealer busts, late surrender (which was very mysterious to my fellow drunk players), DAS including As but they did hit S17. Money was won and tips/booze flowed freely!

The Strip probably has more bad rules than off-strip and DT as far as blackjack and some other table games. That would be a factor as to losing your BR faster.

For me personally, I play craps and the rules are basically the same everywhere, except the parameters of the free odds bets. On the Strip the minimums are usually (especially during busy times and at nite) higher than off-strip and DT. If undiciplined, this can be a factor in losing your BR faster.

The Strip casinos are (for the most part, lol!) prettier and less smokier. It has all the bells and whistles to make you feel special and wanted. It is the ultimate adult playground that can easily and handily separate you from your money if you let it.

But to a serious gambler all of this doesn't matter except the odds of the game being played, whether in a perfumed, beautiful enviroment or a smokey, seedy hole in the wall.
