A friend told me that the Embassy Suites at the convention center was a nice hotel with great service and rooms. Any comments are appreciated.

I visited friends at the hotel when they stayed there about 2 years ago. It is a standard Embassy Suites. They have nice free breakfast and an evening reception with veggies/dip, chips/salsa, and free drinks (including alcohol.) If you are attending a convention or do not want to be on the strip, it is a decent option. If you are looking for the "Vegas" experience then I would not stay there. The neighborhood seemed a bit sketchy at night. I have personally stayed at the MArriott Suites and the Renaissance (both near the convention center) and they are decent options also.

    There's a good recent review here: http://www.travelzork.com/vegas-embassy-suites-lvcc-part-i/

I stayed there for a work convention that was at the convention center and it was fine. I appreciated the free meals. And with a car, it was easy to drive over to Starbucks in the morning, park at Westgate and play some VP, and then head in to the convention. Without a vehicle, I don't know that it's the best location but I never felt in danger...

I went to a get-together there a few years ago. Very nice facility, similar to many Embassy Suites. Only issue I remember is we had to hand off the parking card as it was tightly controlled. Yeah, I know we abused it. :)

I stayed there in March and liked it very much. Check-in was easy & quick, with no wait at all. The staff was friendly and professional. The free breakfast buffet was great with many choices--I can't think of anything I would want that they didn't have. I stayed there over a week-end, though, so seating was at a premium for the buffet. The earlier you go--the easier it is to find seating. The evening manager's reception held on the 3rd floor was great! Free drinks, including alcohol and various snacks (chip, dips, cheese, fruit, etc). Admission to the reception is strictly for those over 21. However, they also have a reception for the kids held at the same time on the ground floor/lobby which was a nice touch with kid friendly choices of beverages and snacks. Our room was spacious and clean. Although the furnishings were a little dated, it was very comfortable. There was plenty of parking spaces and we never had a problem finding a place to park. I never walked around the neighborhood after dark, but I never felt any type of dangerous vibe. We had a car, but with lyft and uber as inexpensive transportation options, getting around should not be a problem. The only downside, to me, was it's not like staying in a casino/hotel. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the strip for a restful night of sleep--this is the place for you. I also would highly recommend it for families traveling with children. If you want all of the excitement of the strip and casino environment, this is not the place for you. I would stay here again.
