8 guys going to Vegas, half vegas-virgins, half been before. We booked a 2-bedroom suite at Elara Hilton. In reality a 3-bedroom would fit all of us, but the pricejump from 2 to 3-bedroom is almost 100%. So we figured that a 2-bedroom might be just fine given that the likelyhood of all 8 sleeping at the same time is pretty small, and if so, one or two might just crash on the couch in the living room.

    1) Does Elara Hilton have a policy on how many people can stay in a 2 bedroom? Will they just fork over 8 keys for us if we ask, or should we act like we're just staying 6 people?

    2) Any chance on a front desk tip will give us a complementary upgrade to a larger suite? If so how much should we tip?

    3) We will not have a car during our stay, since we'll be either drunk or hungover all the time. What is the easy way of stocking up the fridge. We're going to need some liquer and soda in the fridge. Wallgreens is close by?

    4) I suppose we're giving up on possible comps, since the is no Casino at Elara? Or do they coorporate with Planet Hollywood or any other casino where we can get rated to obtain comps?

    5) Any other advice for stays at Elara?

    1. Not sure... when I've stayed there before, we just went down to the desk later and asked for a couple more keys. Just give the keys to whoever's name isn't on the room then have the others get more keys made later that night.

    2. I've stayed there three times and never been successful in getting a free upgrade. They've always put us on some list but never hear any follow-up.

3a. There's an ABC store downstairs in the Miracle Mile shops that's reasonably priced (across from Earl of Sandwich).
3b. There's a Walgreens on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd/Harmon Ave.
3c. If you need to get a LOT of soda/liquor, to the point where it would be troublesome to carry, you can also place a delivery order with Vons -- I think if it's your first order, the delivery fee is waived with the promo code EASY7. You have to meet the delivery guy and escort him past elevator security.

    4. Unfortunately, there's no comps to be had staying at Elara through gambling that I'm aware of.

    5. You mentioned 2 people crashing on the sofa in the living room... I believe both the L-shaped couch in the living room and the couch in one of the bedrooms are pullout queen sleeper sofas (the other bedroom only has a chaise lounge).

Ya, that room has 4 beds. So unless each guy needs a king/queen bed all to themselves there isn't a problem.

Same here, I had a 1br and asked for a upgrade to a 2br. I was told no at the time and to check back in the morning which I did and they said no again.

I woudln't consider those couch pull out beds a bed. The one we had was so god damn uncomfortable my buddy slept on the floor saying it was more confortable than the pull out. I layed on it for a bit and felt pretty bad for him.

    Addon questions:

2a) It seams unlikely to get an upgrade for at larger suite. However info on what to request for suite location would be appreciated. I suppose high floor with at strip view would by nice? Any other advice?

    6) Best nearby casino for low limit craps ($5 or $10) and low limit (3:2) BJ?

I stayed at Elara for 5 nights in March, and it's a great hotel. It's not too far through Miracle Mile, and the ABC Stores or Walgrrens at the corner of Harmon is convenient to pick up some drinks for the room or to take on the go.

I tried to get an upgrade out of my room category and was not successful with a $20 tip. The clerk mentioned since it's a Hilton policy to not allow upgrades, I tried my best but she was not budging. I got a higher room, and strip view but it wasn't worth the money.

For a bunch of guys check out Twin Peaks just above Walgreens, good view from there!

Do they provide pool towels, or should we bring our own?

I didn't use the pool, but I've never visited a hotel pool where towels were not provided.

This is a death wish. I tried this once for a weekend with some friends since it would be a short weekend. One person was sick on the plane on the way to Vegas. Everyone else got sick in Vegas and ruined the entire trip for everyone since we only had one room and were all exposed to the germs. Then there was the fighting. What a nightmare. By the end of the trip, we all couldn't wait to get away from one another. And, we were all best friends (still are and that was about 10 years ago).

This happened again on another trip where I refused to share rooms. I felt great the entire time while those knuckleheads were violently ill. They've all learned their lesson now and everyone gets their own room.

With all of the cheap rooms in Vegas... especially Harrahs, Flamingo, Quad, Ballys, etc, right smack on strip... seems very silly to take a chance on cramming 8 people into the same room. But to each his own.

They have towels at the desk where you check in for the pool. The pool really isn't anything great, but it surely gets the job done. Got a nice sunburn on that deck to prove it!

+1. I've done 5 guys in one room before and it was not much fun. Even with a two bedroom 8 guys is going to be very crowded. Like Undathesea said, it's the bathroom situation that will ruin it.
