Need some help for a Saturday in October. Wife and I are going to meet friends on Sunday but plan to fly in on Saturday. We want to stay downtown before we meet he Vegas virgins for three nights on the Strip. I have stayed at MSS, the D (when it was the Fitz), Gold Spike, and several times at the Nugget. Cost is not a factor and I have narrowed my choices to:

1, Golden Gate - one of the new suites
Advantage G Gate, I would like to say I have stayed there and want to see the new suites. Negative, noise from the stupid DJ on the west side of the canopy! However, input would be great. Perhaps the noise is not bad from the suites?

2, El Cortez - one of the suites
Advantage El Co, we will be hitting The Griffin, Don't Tell Momma and any new bars on Freemont East. It would be nice to walk across the street and back to the room. Plus, I do want to stay at El Co, just not as much as Golden Gate. Negative, I really don't know much about El Cortez other than The Flame and cheap craps.

Any advice would be gladly accepted!

If you go ElCo, I highly recommend their Cabana Suites across the street. Great rates and great rooms.

Thanks Zamboni, I checked the photos on Oyster and they look very nice. I wish Golden Gate had more photos and no one online has put out any pics of the bathrooms.

If you go on youtube, there are videos of peoples rooms at Cabana Suites. If you do go that route, get either a Super or Junior Suite.

I just stayed at El Cortez in April. Wasn't bad at all. Motel 6 quality but worth the price I paid which was $25.00 per night.

I have stayed at El Cortez three times. you couldn't ask for friendlier employees, and both the original rooms VINTAGE, and TOWER ROOMS were very clean and comfortable. Vintage rooms were the original, reburished about 3 or 4 years ago. They are small (198sq.ft.) with a small bathroom but I am alone. I did not find them smokey inside (I am a non-smoker) but the halls were. noise wasn't bad, but no elevator; you walk up from the casino. I am solo in LV usually so it was fine for me.

Tower rooms are roomy tho the bathroom is on the small side. Nicely furnished, bathroom window tha opens, love seat, desk and chair. Very nice, clean, and you need your room key to get to yur floor for added security. I have never seen the suites across the street but most of what i read has been positive.

I have not stayed in the cabana suites at El Cor but I have heard they are tight on space. Tower rooms are spacious but slightly dated. Vintage rooms are clean but cramped, I wouldn't want to share one. Try asking for a 'Vintage suite'. My brother asks for this when we are comped. There are three of these, corner rooms with about twice the living space and a small bar area. The bathrooms are still tiny but it can't be beat for old school ambiance. A big plus for the vintage rooms is that they are up two flights of stairs, no waiting for elevators.

The Elco Design-A-Suites are the newest and look nice from Pics.

I stayed in the Cabana Super and been in the Cabana Jr, both are nice The super has a couch and very large bathroom but basicaly the same, I liked them a lot.

I had decided upon El Co but they would not let me book a Saturday only stay, sadness. Looks like I may be stuck with the Golden Gate suite for the night. Not bad but not my first choice. Thank you, everyone, for the input.
