    Trips to Las Vegas:
    I'm a downtown person only..
My last trip I stayed at the El Cortez and it was fine but the walk to downtown is a bit too much.
On this trip I'm staying at the Freemont so I'm downtown in the heart of things.
I go alone and usually to avoid having to keep up with other people, hence I can do my own thing.
My question is how do the rooms at the Freemont compare to the El Cortez ?
And should I request a certain room or area of rooms at the Freemont ?
Thanks, good luck and happy gambling.

For sure request one away from FSE if you're not an all night party guy. The music can be loud until 1-2 AM.

I only stayed once and my room was close to the FSE. It's not that bad actually but then I sleep like a log. The room was small but clean, neat, and seemed recently renovated.

Only issue would be the small bathroom. Being a guy and solo, it didn't bother me. Other than that, I think you'll enjoy staying at the Fremont. It's in the middle of everything Downtown.

I stay often in the Fremont and El Cortez usually at comped or reduced price. I like both but prefer the Fremont because of its location.

I've stayed at El Co and like you the walk was a little out of the way. I would take Fremont or better yet Four Queens.

I think it depends on what is important to you. The Fremont is right in the middle of all the "action" so very convenient. The negatives to the Fremont are: Bathrooms are smallish, I feel like I have to watch my toiletries because they might fall in the toilet. Regular rooms are a little smallish also, for one person not a problem but for 2 it is a little small. Only valet parking so if you have a car tipping can add up, esp if you go in and out (I usually go in and out a few times a day so tips add up, plus I don't like to wait for my car to be brought around, plus one time my car came back with a scratch along one side, attendant said that it was already there but I know better since I always check my car before using the valet). Rooms can be noisy (the ones facing binions) from the FSE noise IMHO. Other positives for the Fremont - rooms are close to the action, there is an elevator that opens up on the casino floor. many eateries. But basically very convenient being in the middle of downtown.

There are different room types at the El Cortez, many people love the cabana suites and there is a possibility that you could get upgraded to the cabana suites. Lots of free parking for hotel guests. Tower rooms are very spacious, many of them have a couch and coffee table so you can relax away from the bed area.

While the Fremont is convenient, I like to stay at the EC because of ample self parking and the bigger rooms. I will be at the EC this coming Sunday but will probably play (craps) at the Fremont and MSS and Cal.

I've stayed at the Fremont several times. As others mentioned, the rooms do tend to be small and the bathrooms are very small. As a solo traveler, this was no problem for me. There isn't a whole lot of shelf room but I never felt concern that my stuff would fall in the toilet. The rooms aren't fancy but they're clean. The staff there is very friendly and helpful.

I've never stayed at El Co so I can't really compare the rooms but I can tell you the location is a LOT better. It's very conveniently located and very easy to get from your room to the casino or outside. There are several places to eat in the hotel and it's an easy walk to even more options.

The last few times I've stayed, my room has been on the side facing Binions and the bus stop. The noise from Fremont didn't bother me. I could hear the music from the light shows but I'm not sure I'd have even particularly noticed it if I hadn't been listening for it. If you're a light sleeper, your mileage may vary.

The rooms there have shutters instead of drapes. Some have complained about light coming through the slats in the morning bothered them. It didn't me but I do wear a sleep mask.
