Anyone know if you need to make an appt here for a straight razor shave? Will be in Vegas on Sat before Easter, and would like to get one when I get there that morning!

I think he charged $12. However, he probably spent 25 minutes on me. The man is incredibly professional and detailed. I haven't found a barber at home that is even remotely as good as the gentleman at El Cortez. I actually schedule my haircut before a Vegas trip far enough ahead of time so that I can get a cut there; he's that good.

I read the article above before posting, and it said something about appts, but I read a review somewhere that said no appts. So that confused me. Ill just take Dtyst1's advice and head down there after we get in to Vegas that sat. Will be early enough I might not have to wait long!

I went there one time and only had to wait until he finished doing Jackie Gaughans haircut.

He didn't use a straight razor when I went there this past year. He puts a new blade in a razor each time. The results were the same as when I shave. I wouldn't go back . Hope you have better luck.

Dtyst1, did he use a straight razor on you or just a reg/normal one?

I had a shave there last November. He used a straight razor. It wasn't as close a shave as I thought it would be (I actually do a better job) however with the warm shave cream and alternating cold and hot towels it was very relaxing.

I went to his shop (2nd floor El Cortez) and waited for him to return from lunch-no appt and only a few minutes waiting.

Overall, a nice experience but I would not repeat.

Only on T2V can we get discussion on obtaining a straight razor shave at the El Co. Gotta love this place.

    1. Eliminate your desire.
    2. Be excellent in her presence.

With the quality of home disposable razors, it's nearly impossible for a straight edge to have a noticeable improvement over what you get at home. But, as you pointed out, it's more for the experience than anything else.

To me, it's one of the inexpensive luxuries that I'll do halfway through my Vegas trip.

It's certainly cheaper than a ladies' spa treatment!
