I was in Vegas from 12/5 to 12/9, staying DT at MSS. I had some friends at ElCo, so we traveled a bit around. Saturday night we were on our way tot he Atomic, and first off found a "winter Wonderland" in the lot next to the old Western. It was decorated with trees and contained an ice skating rink with skate rentals, a medium (maybe 10 ft high) sledding hill and a real low one maybe 3-4 ft high. They had the saucer type sleds available. Also they showed Christmas movies on a big screen.
Admission is free, and it's quite cute.
Next door Zappo's opened up a "Pop Up Store" you would go in find something that you wished to purchase, then order it on their computers and it would be shipped to you. this is in the old Western, it is cleaned up, painted floors cleaned and some nice lounging chairs around.

BUT, most important, they reopened the bar!!!! Yes the Western Bar is open. They have limited alcoholic beverages and beer, but service is great. It was wonderful to go in and relive those days of years past.

Then onward to the Atomic. Nothing like being the oldest person in the Atomic. There was a big crowd out on the patio and the bar was hopping. We headed back up Fremont around 11, and all the bars were busy, in fact there was a line waiting to get into Insert Coins.

I saw the grocery store/market. It was quite stocked but there were not any parking spots out front. Not sure if they were any around back.

Fremont Experience was wall to wall people, so we headed back to Odgen to avoid the crowd.

Do they still have the shot and a beer special? I think it was $2.50 last time I went the Western, I'm positive it was less than 3 bucks tops. It was a little more than the 2 dollar TNT (Tequila and Tecate) special the Gold Spike had near the end of it's smoke and grime years and attracted a similarly interesting crowd.

I love what's been done with that area of Fremont Street East.

Didn't that bar used to sell 40 oz bottles of Old English 800?

The prices were in comparison to the other bars on Fremont. But it was just the entire idea of being in the Western bar again. Nostaglic.
