I get into McCarran at 10 AM on a Saturday in August, and am staying at the D.

Is early check-in (say, 11 AM) a problem there? I don't remember seeing anything about a fee for early check-in when booking. I guess there is always the $20 trickā€¦

This also raises a question I hadn't thought of: I usually come in on a Friday morning, just as the weekend is coming to life. Coming in early on a Saturday, I am probably less likely to get a nice room.

Any other suggestions about the in/out workings of the D (where I think I stayed once, 20+ years ago!) would be appreciated.

I stayed there in November. I forget what time I arrived but it was well before the official check in time. I had no problems at all with checking in early and definitely no extra fee for it. I was really impressed with how helpful the staff there was in general. Several times they went further than they had to in order to help me.

I liked my room and I liked the casino a lot. I wasn't that impressed with the food offerings, although none of it was bad. I do hear their upscale restaurant (Can't think of the name and too lazy to look it up) is fantastic but I have a downscale budget and didn't eat there. Anyway, there are plenty of other places to eat nearby.

It's a great location and I'd gladly stay there again.

Thanks, SN! That is all good to hear. I met a friend of mine at Andiamo when I was there last year, and found him eating a steak at the bar. He was like King Midas the whole weekend (as in an 11, yes 11, game parlay that came through), so he was doing stuff like that. Anyway, the place looked pretty good and if I'm doing well I might have a meal there -- at a regular table!
