I have several friends that have quit and began using these things. They smoke their e-cigs more than they ever did real ones. I figured they absolutely had to contain nicotine judging by the amounts they smoke. I'm a light smoker and plan on quitting after my 40th (Nov. 22nd.) I had tried quitting earlier this year, but my appetite went batshit, and I wrecked my diet. Also with a Vegas trip on the horizon, I know better that to try and quit before then.

I quit smoking May of 2012. In Feb of this year I started using the e-cig because stress was driving me to pick up a real cigarette again. Let me tell you, I will never ever smoke a real cigarette again! Yes, my e-juice does contain nicotine but you can get it without to just satisfy the habit if that's what you need.

The e-cig is great, it doesn't smell at all and doesn't contain all of those harmful carcinogens that real cigs do. Nicotine is not the killer of real cigarettes...it's the tar, tabacco and carbon monoxide etc. in them that do. Nicotine is a stimulant similar to caffeine. I found this blurb on a website about the effects of nicotine alone:

"The effects of nicotine itself are similar to that other popular drug, caffeine. See our (nicotine reading list.) There is no evidence that nicotine causes any substantial risk for cancer, and the research shows that the risk for cardiovascular disease is minimal. The confusion about nicotine comes from anti-smoking activists talking about nicotine and smoking as if they were the same. While it is true that people smoke mostly because of nicotine; nicotine users die mostly because of the smoke."

Yes! Nicotine is not what hurts you, the smoke does. Vape on!

of course it's nicotine. there would be no point if they didn't contain nicotine. the whole point is that it doesn't include the tar and other additives that are much worse for you than the nicotine. it's not like the patch that's designed to help you quit.

My wife has done incredible on these things the past few months! I can't wait to see how they are dealt with as far as restaurants, planes, etc. as they grow in popularity.

I've smoked mine in the airport without any problems. Don't think I would on a plane tho...even tho there is no offensive smell, depending upon the flavor juice you have it could smell sweet or perfumey which some people might not like.

I even smoke mine at work at my desk!

I tried using one of the ecigs a couple years back. There were a couple issues I had with it. 1) i would go through the equivalent of 2-3 packs a day with the ecig. 2) Its not a regulated industry meaning a company could put whatever they want in the nicotine solution. I was afraid of what else they mixed into the glycol/nicotine solution to get you hooked on that.
I know smoking is horrible for me and wanted to quit but I don't want to replace one cancer with another one.

side note: the company I work for went to a nicotoine free campus so they even banned the use of the ecigs on the property.

Many times on planes I hear them say not allowed. Restaurants I think welcome them, at least I know bars do. I use my on planes anyway, just make sure no one see's me. Thanks to our VMB Queen Sonya, I bought one of the ones she recommended, and it is way way better than the ones I was using that looked like a regular cigarette.

I use a Janty Ego...never had any problems in any airport or at any bar anywhere.

None of the domestic airlines permit their use, but as of yet, NONE of the three airlines I contacted about this have been able to provide me with a reason for the ban.
Even their staff do not know why e-cigs are prohibited on planes!
There is simply a public perception problem...which, in my opinion, is behind the objections to public smoking of real cigarettes for most people who object. They think it's harmful because of what they've read or been told, not realizing that in most public places, there is no measurable difference between breathing smoke-free air and breathing the air where there is casual smoking (in a well-ventilated environment).

Laws that prohibit a PRIVATE business from permitting the consumption of a LEGAL product on their PRIVATE property are some of the worst cases of governmental tyranny I have ever witnessed in the United States.

PS - Sonya, if this post crosses the line, please accept my apology in advance, and feel free to delete the post without notice to me. This is one of those sore-subjects for me, & I can tend to get emotional about it.

except when you're sitting downwind from someone smoking and it's blowing right in your face. I don't really think it's about "health", it's just annoying.

but I do agree that private businesses should be allowed to do what they want with regards to smoking and anything else. people who don't like it can go somewhere else.

And I'm looking for just the opposite. I want a Nicotine-FREE tobacco cigarette. I quite 3 years ago yet still wish for the taste and smell of tobacco. But I want to be able to smoke when I want to, with a drink or in the casino, yet not want to be hooked and crave a cigarette the next morning when I wake up. I've tried herbal cigarettes, but they don't taste like tobacco. I want to be able to smoke an occasional butt when I want to, and not be a slave to it and smoke when a craving tells me to.

    I think it's fine for outdoors and places where regular smoking is allowed such as a Casino but not in Restaurants or public places such as;
Airports, Airplanes, or Buses etc. Vapor or not please keep in mind you are still blowing something out of your body into the air others breathe.
    It's still nasty!

e-cigs are currently banned on all US airlines. They're banned by the airlines themselves, not by federal law. As far as health concerns there is no tar and other carcinogens found in normal cigarettes but there are still a lot of chemicals besides nicotine in the vapor. Still much less damaging than cigarettes though.

Not too many chemicals. The ejuice I smoke has water, propylene glycol, nicotine, and sometimes flavoring. That's it. Those ingredients...minus the nicotine...can be found in your every day foods, skin/hair care products. Most don't even know it's there.

Just sayin, it's nothing compared to tobacco smoking. What is exhaled is no more than carbon dioxide and water vapor.

There are plenty of odors I don't care for either.
But I don't have a political lobby to impose my will on private businesses, so I just have to endure it.

Seriously though - the perception problem is that many people are of the false belief that being near a smoker in a well-ventilated area is somehow causing them 'harm' that they would not otherwise be subjected to.

That belief has been heavily promoted throughout our culture, and it is a lie.

If most folks who object to smokers (and let's be honest - that's what it actually is), were given a choice to stand on a street corner in any downtown area of any medium-to-large city, or sit two rows away from a smoker at an outdoor ballpark, would foolishly choose the street corner, ignorantly believing that the smoker two rows away in the open-air posed greater health risk than the exhaust fumes from even just a few cars passing the street corner ever few moments.

Yes. In my opinion, most folks who demand that they not have to be subjected to being within sight of anyone smoking a cigarette have a perception problem.

PS - I also think that (these days, anyway) most bars that permit smoking have air that is every bit as "safe" as non-smoking bars.

I quit in May after smoking for 36 years using an e-cig....vapor. I have not wanted or needed a real cigarette since. What I really like is you can get tobacco flavored oil or some that tastes like fruit / alcohol flavored drinks...etc. You can also get zero nicotine up to 24 mg. You have real choices. Instead of $60 a month for cigs, I spend about $15 for my oil after purchasing my e-smart duo pack. Much healthier & cheaper. I actually feel better too!!

I smoked for 20+ years and this is strictly anecdotal, but I have had two non smoking relatives die of lung cancer. Both their spouses smoked, neither of them ever did.

Proof of a correlation, no, but plenty of studies out there about second hand smoke.

Personally, I think the ban on smoking in bars and restaurants here in WI is wonderful. There was such an uproar when it was enacted, but people have adjusted to smoking outside, even in WI winters.
