From this board, it is evident that there are many factions (mlife vs. CET, downtown vs. strip, etc.) that shapes one view on where we want to stay, eat and gamble. I also know that table conditions, shows, and variety of restaurants also impacts one's view on where one wants to stay or one's opinion of the place. However, there are also dumb reasons one doesn't like a place.

So what are your dumb reason(s) you don't like a casino? Here are a few places I don't like for somewhat dumb reasons:

    1. Caesars. I constantly get lost in this place.

    2. PH. I have fond memories of the new Aladdin and liked the tacky decor.

    3. Excalibur. Something about this place depresses me. Is it the decor, smell or the rundown nature of the place? If you want to find the hottest indoor space in Vegas during the summer, the walkway from Excalibur to Luxor must be a 120 degrees. I don't think the AC works and I wonder how the people at the e-cigarette place survives.

    4. Harrah's. Back before the party pit was the Toby Keith's party pit, they had a promotion at the blackjack table if you had certain hands you received swag. In about 2 hours, I hit 4 out of 5 of the hands listed but only received a shirt. They were out of everything else. While the stuff was junk, I still wanted the swag. It was a matter of principle.

    5. Luxor. How can you take a cool concept and make it so boring? Also the lighting in there bothers me for some reason.

Aria - I hate the cards they use for their table games. I like the cards with the numbers in a bigger font, they have small numbers at Aria. The cards with small numbers just look cheaper to me for some reason.

You wanted a dumb reason, you got one.

I always feel like I need a shower when I leave Excalibur Casino (and it's not because I've just been to The Thunder which is the only reason to go in there now:eek:). That place is just nasty!

Flamingo falls into that dirty nasty category too these days too.

I used to avoid Caesars because I always got lost, but after staying on back to back trips, I finally learned my way around and now like it.

I've always been "pissy" about Aria/City Center as it killed the old Boardwalk, my favourite dive casino at the time. I'm slowing forgiving City Center though.

I haven't stepped foot in Circus Circus since my first visit to a vegas in 82 and I see no reason to end that streak.

I don't like the trop because it's too damn bright in there. All that white hurts my eyes.

CP and Aria takes too long to navigate all the BS, just trying to get in the joint is a hassle on foot. Hell, its damn near impossible to just try and walk past citycenter, with all the stairs and escalators and such. I have a feeling I will feel the same way about Bally's now that they got rid of the people mover and are putting in the Bazaar.

Walking in front of V/P I always feel like I am going to get run over by a car (similar to the old IP setup), so I steer clear alot of times.

Monte Carlo always feels like a morgue to me. I can't put my finger on it, but the casino area just seems so sterile and lacking energy.

The blue-sky ceiling at Paris is incredible tacky (IMO).

This might be the dumbest reason..

I don't like Excalibur because the doors to the place are always coated in oily hand prints. Do they ever come by and clean the glass?

I hate Circus Circus because my wife says I have to.
The story below is a repost of my reply to the why the hate for Circus Circus thread last year.

We have a division in our family. My wife detests CC , I like the place in small doses. We have never stayed there but have visited 10-12 times. Our last visit was a few years ago and may have been our last ever.
OK, the wife hates the place because she hates clowns :goofy: and she feels the place is dirty and overrun with rugrats (unsupervised children). I like the place because I enjoy the carny games and the circus acts.

For years, my wife would suck it up and tolerate a visit to CC for me once each trip. This was a lot easier when the Westward Ho and the Stardust where near by. We would make it a "old school vegas" day and bounce around the places. After the other places were dozed, I had to do a lot more cajoling to get her to agree to a few hours of CC entertainment.

Our last visit was a few years ago during our annual Christmas visit to Vegas. We were playing some carny games and I noticed that Santa :santa was sitting on his chair posing for pictures a short distance away . There was no line and he seemed a bit bored. I turned to my wife and asked if she wanted to pose with Santa for a great Christmas picture. Her response was an invitation to me to perform an act by myself that is physically impossible and I think prohibited in the Bible :wink2:.

In any case, I am a charmer, and after about 20 minutes of begging and pleading (as a married man of over 30 years, I am very skilled in those actions) she agreed to sit on Santa's lap and pose for a festive Christmas picture. I stood in front of Santa as my wife begrudgingly shuffled over to sit on his lap. I held the camera up just as she sat down. She sat down on Santa's lap and Santa took her hand in his, turned toward the camera and smile. Immediately the expression on my wife's face changed from one of indifference to one of horror and anger :grrr: . I asked to her smile and she glared at me . Realizing that my life and 50% of my belongings were in danger of being lost i quickly snapped the picture and said "Great. Thanks honey". She jumped off his lap and ran over to me and said "touch my hand". I grabbed her hand and it was soaking wet . We walked around the corner and she turned and looked at her butt. Where she had sat on his lap was a huge wet spot :vomit:. Santa was apparently a bit sweaty (at least i hope it was only sweat). As we hurriedly walked down the ramp from the second to the casino floor, she let loose a series of expletives that would have made a Marine blush .

As we made the long trek to the car I made numerous promises to make amends including a special steak dinner that night (not at CC) and a special day at the spa that included a 2 hour massage. :nworthy:
It was a very expensive visit and we have not returned and probably never will.

If a place is a toilet that's not a dumb reason for disliking it, it's a brilliant reason!

This could be dumb. It could be logical. So I'll just throw it out there:

My wife will never step in Slots of Fun again. We saw the world's biggest cockroach a few steps from where they were selling footlong hot dogs. She would have beat Usain Bolt in the race to the door.

Another vote for Caesars as every time we get lost in it.

Venetian because we stayed there on our first visit and won bugger all.

Riviera because I felt like I was sticking to the floor when walking and was itching for a while after we left (all in the mind I know).

Smells get to me first. I'm never one sensitive to it as a man who lived in a frat house, hunts, and generally deals with typical smells the wife can't handle.

But, a casino smelling like a toilet or similar just kills my desire to go back. Part of my concern is that I can't remember which ones smelled bad, and we're going to visit again this summer. That means I have successfully avoided them long enough. Ack, now I'll have to repeat the cycle.

I do have to say I am not a huge fan of City Center/Comso/Aria - whatever you want to call all of them along that side. Although nice design, I just don't find them interesting. I find them bland. And, I'm not over the top for themes, but they just seem so de-themed that it is one homogenous area now w/Boardwalk gone.

MGM because it confuses my wife. She doesn't like the size and layout. I've stayed there and thought it was OK. But, if my wife hates it, I might as well, too. That's dumb.

CP - Wife actually likes it and I think it is a confusing layout. Go figure. That's dumb.

Probably the silliest one for me of all is Golden Nugget. I wish I could tell you why I don't like it, but I just don't like it. I guess that is dumb in and of itself.

Sweaty Santa at CC is just wrong!

Almost as gross was the filth in the IP restaurants when we were hungry late one night. I stood in line in the snack bar for a minute before my better sense won out. We left, opting for a cold bottled beer for dinner instead.

    1) At night I find the Paris indoor blue skies to be extremely off-putting.
    2) I hate the pumped in smell at the flamingo.
    3) CP feels like a maze.
    4) Circus Circus: kids
