Driving from California to Las Vegas has anyone ever encountered a sand storm on Interstate 15?

On our way back we encountered one. It was the first time I have driven through a sand storm. It was a little nerve wracking.
    Visibility was about 60 feet.

We were thinking this is how the multiple car pileups occur.

We drove through one in Death Valley last year. It was pretty spooky when you couldn't see two feet in front of you.

I've driven though many, including Tule Fog (only central valley California has it)
I hate the sand/dust storms because they scratch the SHIT out of the paint!

Yup...couple years ago. The roof of the Agriculture Station was blown off. Visibility was about as far as the windshield wipers. My vehicle has a near vertical windshield...when I got home, for the next week, I thought my windshield was just dirty from the sand...nope! The entire windshield was pitted by the sandstorm. I had to replace the windshield. Luckily the front of the vehicle and headlights faired better...oddly.

I guess the sand storm I was in was not as bad as I thought.

It was probably very similar...I was exaggerating about the visibility

I've seen a bit of everything over the years but when it comes to desert sand storms, the worst have been in the Coachella Valley. It was so bad on the 10 one time that we just pulled over and waited.

Only once, near Quartzite, Az. My paint got all scratched and my windshield pitted. It was pretty scary. The only thing keeping me moving forward was the fear of someone coming up from behind and crashing into me.
