Don't mean for this to be a rant thread. But I've actually been meaning to post this forever. It's regarding the maniacal drivers on the road to and from Las Vegas and Los Angeles. And I realize this happens everywhere- there's asshole drivers all over our great U S of A... That's what being a proud American is right? You own the road and everyone else is a bad driver...

I consider myself a VERY good driver. I've only received two moving violations in the 18 years of my driving record. I obey traffic laws, I'm courteous on the road, and a defensive, but not a passive driver. I do drive 5-10 mph above the posted speed limit for the most part on the I-15 highway to and from Veags- it just depends on the road conditions and the surrounding traffic.

My beef comes when you have the drivers:
-who are driving driving erratically, weaving thru traffic like they've got some place to be (it's an open highway- you've got some time to go pard'nr before you actually get there). Does driving this way actually help you arrive much sooner than if you were following the current traffic flow?
-those drivers that come up behind you, change lanes, pull aside you (give you 'that look'), pass you, and cut back into your lane right in front of you (because 80mph is too slow for them).
-the drivers that follow the big rigs (respect the rig!) up until you're about to pass the truck and they decide to switch lanes to pass as well in front of you. Now they're slowing you down plus affecting the entire flow of traffic in the lane behind you.
-the two drivers driving.. urgh... 65-70 mph side by side in the only two lanes on the highway.

I'm certain I had more to bitch about. I know it's a sensitive discussion. Everyone drives different and has their own opinion how to drive- I'm interested to know what other members hate about the open road. I'm just a conscious person, that's all. I try to responsible, and I respect my fellow drivers. Life is fragile and it can be gone too soon too quickly. I just want to get to Vegas in one piece so I can sin responsibly

after a few dozzen tickets it what its is

and on a side note if you get a speeding ticket in a federal park it doesnt go on your record just pay and go on your way.yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

My number one gripe is the folks who don’t understand what the left lane is for. If you aren’t passing, get in the right lane. The left lane cruisers will get stiff prison sentences when I’m king (repeat offenders will get life without possibility of parole). :grrr:

Number two is people who can’t keep a constant speed. I’m riding along with the cruise set. I pass a car going slower than me, and then pull into the right lane. Later, that same driver passes me (my cruise is still set at the same speed) and pulls into the right lane. Then he proceeds to slow down to his earlier (slower) speed requiring me to re-pass him. This often happens multiple times with these idiots…buddy, just set your ****ing cruise for crying out loud!

Finally, people who don’t use turn signals really annoy me. Oh, and by the way…putting your signal on AFTER you’ve started braking doesn’t count, you moron! The purpose of the turn signal is to give others a heads-up as to what you are GOING to do…not what you’re in the process of doing. :rolleyes2:

I have more…but these are tops on my list.

I realize that's the appropriate move- I'm usually already in the left because I consider 75-80 fast. For the most part this coincides with the flow. It's that one off who decided to go around 90 :) It must be physiological- one fast driver usually brings on a few more into the realm.

A good habit is to pull off the highway, drive through town and get back on the highway. You usually distance yourself from the cluster of drivers you've been on the road with since Barstow and give yourself a reboot :)

My favorite is I'm on the interstate doing ~5 over in the right lane. Some idiot comes up behind me, passes, then cuts in front of me to exit.

This could be a very long thread. :evillaugh

After extensive, industry-funded research, it has been concluded that these phenomena and most notably the clogging-the-left-lane matter is caused by a Japanese virus: "Prius."

If you're in the left lane and someone is catching up, I don't care if you are doing 55 or 115, you need to move over.

Not just there, my friend, not just there.

This is part of that larger package of I'm an Entitled American Asshole-ness that is plaguing this country.

Why don't these drivers (not the car) spontaneously implode? Like the Harmon Tower:wave:

    I agree.

    I agree.

    And I agree!

I would be very content to just sit in the right lane with my cruise control on the speed limit.

I did have one very strange & unexpected experience at 3 a.m. on a Sunday on I-10 .

I had been with my son to a casino in Lake Charles, La.

Hurricane Katrina was approaching New Orleans.

We joined an absolute EXODUS of Louisiana cars headed toward the safety of Houston.

And you know what was amazing? There was no honking, tailgating, or any other rude behavior.

When we stopped for gas at a large station, people were so courteous to each other.

I still can't quite explain it.

If those people could be courteous drivers under such stressful conditions, then I can certainly behave when there is no real need to rush.

If you are in the left lane, it is your responsibility to move to the right whenever anyone comes up behind you that wants to go faster. Each driver is responsible for his own speed. Those who say to themselves, "I'm going fast enough" and refuse to move to the right are the ones who really upset me. :grrr:

FYI - I usually go about 5-10 over the limit on the open road...nothing crazy. But there are many others who would like to go faster than me, regardless of whether I think we are all going fast enough or not. I consider it to be my responsibility to keep an eye on my rear view mirror, and move to the right to let them pass when they approach. And I appreciate the same courtesy from those in front of me.

The right lane is for cruising. The left lane is for passing.

I have a lot of gripes, but this one is at the top of the list. Just because you are driving faster than the speed limit the signs say slower traffic keep right. if you are going 75 and someone is driving 78 then that means you need to move over!

    I feel better.

This is the one that aggravates me the most. And the 'single blinker flash' lane change. What the heck is that? Turn the damn thing on make the lane change, then turn it off.... Oh, and DO, turn the damn thing off when your done using it...

I will admit that the guy weaving through traffic 5-10mph faster than flow is sometimes me. It is a 4 hour trip from my house and my math tells me that if I average 5mph faster throughout the trip, it will make a 20-40 minute difference :].

But like others have said, if people would just move to the right lane unless they are passing, this wouldn't happen.

Nothing wrong with lane surfing, per se. The crapper is the cap-backwards dude in the buzzy rice burner who dives in every other opening and has to brake.
