    Hey all,

We arrive from Vienna, Austria on May 24th and will stay in Vegas for 7 nights. So we will leave Vegas on Tuesday May 31st. The next stop on our vacation will be LA. What will the drive be from LV to LA on Tuesday after Memorial Day?

Few years ago we did the drive on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and still talk about that drive as "The Mother of all traffic jams" :grrr:

    Thanks for any answers!

    Greetings

You're probably good on a Tuesday. The nastiness is typically all Sunday and Monday.

Monday afternoon of a 3 day weekend will be the worst traffic. You should be okay leaving on Tuesday. I find getting out of LV by late morning (11am) usually has the least traffic. By 2-3pm, things start to back up.

Tuesday is going to be fine. Probably lighter than usual, in fact. Now depending on where you are going in "LA" and at what time, you could get the usual commute mess in the basin, but from Vegas, no worries.

I've made the drive on Monday after a normal weekend and it was pretty shitty. Not horrific, but a couple hours longer than it would have been with no traffic. Wouldn't the Tuesday after a Monday holiday be the same?

It all depends on the time you leave.

Early before 9am you should be fine. Or late after dinner you should be fine.
There is really only 2 bottle neck areas.
    1. is primm which is the border town between Nevada and California, that usually backs up during "regular" hours for many hours that can cost you hours
    2. Barstow, the freeway goes from 4 lanes to 3 lanes which isn't that bad even when its busy,

If you can avoid #1 by leaving before 9 you will be good to go. But leave after breakfast time its packed until after dinner.

Maybe there will be less cars once MGM starts charging for parking LOL
