I will be staying downtown for the first time at the Cal.
What route should I tell the driver to take in order to avoid being ripped off??
Not sure if being tunneled to downtown would be a good thing or not.

I have gone both ways. It is about $10 more to go on the highway. As per some advice I got on this board I ask them to take Paradise and it's usually about $26.

I( took the taxi last year at 4:30 am and told him to take me to the airport via Paradise. No problem and cost was about $23+ tip

Tell the cabbie you want Paradise to 4th St. He will probably try and tell you there is road construction. Ignore him and tell him that is the route you want. 4th St heads all the way downtown and a single left turn on Ogden will have you at the Cal.

EDIT: The hotel check-in is on 1st St. Make sure he doesn't go by 1st and stay on Ogden in order to drive around the entire casino. Ogden to Main, to Steward and back to 1st. That would add in 2 more unnecessary traffic lights. I assume he can make a left turn off of 1st into the hotel check-in area. If I'm wrong about the left turn, I'll be corrected by somebody on the board.

If cost is a factor, consider taking the WAX bus from the airport. $2 and you'll be downtown in 25 minutes. You will have to walk from 4th St to the Cal, but that is an easy walk, even pulling luggage. Ogden is one block north of Fremont St, so less than 4 blocks total walk.
