I'm heading to downtown Louisville, Kentucky next week and wondering if anyone has any insight on food, bars, and things to do at night. I'll be in town with free time on Thursday and Friday night.

Bardstown Road is usually a hopping spot. Take it towards the Highlands, plenty of bars and restaurants that can be walked to.

I've had the pleasure of staying in downtown Louisville a few times and I like Washington St. (I think it is), which runs along the Ohio River, between the Yum Center and the minor league baseball park as well as the 4th St. area, which has lots of sports bars and... dare I say it... chain restaurants!!!! It's a lively, fun and very walkable area. It's very touristy, and of course, as such must be avoided by all tourists say some. I also liked going down Broadway to the Brown Hotel for the original Hot Brown! Their fried-chicken is pretty awesome there too!

There is a White Castle within walking distance if you are out and hungry at 4 AM, or if you want to get married at anytime day or night.

Stayed at the Galt House and they had a nice bourbon bar, and enclosed roof top dining and a bar.

Not very busy during the week, and places don't stay open very late in downtown Louisville beyond Derby Week.

I'm partial to the Galt House Hotel. They have an amazing brunch in their rotating restaurant. They also have a bourbon bar downstairs that's something special.
