I just discovered that there is supposedly something called the "Downtown Las Vegas free Wi-Fi Zone".

Described as "The Downtown Las Vegas free Wi-Fi will allow anyone within a one-mile radius of the Fremont Street Experience to access a FREE 1 Mbps Wi-Fi from smart phones, tablets and laptops. The one-mile radius stretches from Main Street to Las Vegas Boulevard along the Fremont Street Experience."

Is this still a thing? And if so, has anyone had luck getting a signal from nearby casinos (perhaps even MSS)?

Also, for those frequent MSS'ers, is there still free wifi down in the lobby?

    Any personal experiences welcome. Thanks!

Free Wifi downtown doesn't work for sheet. At least not anywhere near 4Q, the D, McDonalds.

Free WiFi really? Get a real data plan for your phone and be done with it.

They the MSS did away with the lobby over a year ago. And like the previous poster stated thecity free service is spotty. You can sometimes pick up the plaza's in their lobby. Move around on Freemont and see if one area is better than another. I had luck in the 4queens area early in the morning. Good luck.

Spotty. Depending on the floor we are on, my wife takes her tablet out to the east end of MSS and stands on the porch. Some floors she gets it, others nothing. BTW, the daily charge for internet at MSS is $9.99.

Plaza has a free one that splatters a bit outside, but it doesn't work in the casino.

MSS has porches? Or are you talking about the open stairwells at the end of the building?

Kevin, the free wifi is basically along the FSE so any outlying hotel casino like MSS or the Cal would have to be in direct line of sight of the signal (and I'm not sure where the signal originates). As you can see, the RJ article was written in 2013 so is old, the RJ needs to update their article with up to date information (wifi spotty, not too strong and not available away from the FSE).

As for MSS, they decided that many people were using the free wifi signal but they weren't guests of the hotel (it was mentioned in many sites that MSS had free wifi so many non guests went there to use the signal) so they discontinued that. As others have mentioned, you now have pay if you want to use the wifi at MSS.

If you are staying at the D, the wifi works in the casino as well as the room. I find the 3G/LTE service downtown to be pretty awful. It got worse with my last phone but I just got a new one so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I like to listen to iheartradio or pandora while I play. A lot of the music choices downtown are not what I would pick.

mwig, is this the las vegas free wifi or is this the D wifi? I know that some casinos charge a resort fee which includes free wifi (offered by the hotel).

I never had any luck with the Fremont St Wifi. The Plaza has free Wifi in the lobby, with plenty of comfortable couches & chairs. I did notice it got hot in there sometimes. The Downtown Grand Wifi was usable anywhere on the main casino floor.

The D's wifi is not free.
(I had comped rooms and no resort fee...but no wifi)

While staying there I walked next door to the outside tables and chairs at the 4 Queens and used the free Fremont St wifi just fine. Also used it sitting outside at the Starbucks patio at the GN.
(Could not connect from inside the hotels....only in the street)

The McDonalds at the D does NOT have wifi.
The Plaza lobby works as previously stated.

I always get free wifi with the comped rooms. You have to sign on and I think it says you will be charged but the front desk will confirm that no charge is applied on comped rooms.

Joe, if you pay the $9.95 do you get reception in the casino or just the rooms? MSS is one of the few casinos where I don't mind the music but sometimes people play the super loud keno machines.

I once picked up the "free wi-fi" from my room at Golden Gate, right next to my window facing Main St... but it didn't hold for more than a few minutes, and then it dropped.
Pay the $10 (or the 'resort fee') and don't worry about it.

Oh, that is probably the D wifi, not the vegas free wifi.

I got free wifi at DTG with a comped room, had to sign on with my room number. Gizmodo reports free wifi at the downtown container park. I can't confirm it, but seems logical.
