We stayed Monday night (June 8) at the Downtown Grand after our connecting flight on Southwest from Vegas to Seattle was cancelled. The check in clerk gave us an upgrade to a suite. It had a bedroom, living room, and two bathrooms. The bathrooms were identical to each other (except mirror image). They have a corner shower with full door as opposed to the half door setup in the standard rooms. It was in the west tower, facing west (hence, quiet). Here are some photos. As you can see, it's two standard rooms outfitted as a two-room suite. Very nice of them to give us the upgrade!

I've also included a photo of my dealt royal flush playing my $10 free play at the DTG that night. Never happened to me before, and 1 in 650,000 odds. I was only playing dimes to stretch the play, but heck, I'll take it! Gave some of it back later, but still came home a winner overall.

Nice to see they had a door on the shower, my room did not, just a glass wall covering half of it and the rest was open

Very nice looking suite. As Iwannabeinvegas stated, that half door on the shower is stupid.
Is this suite in the original building, or the newer building to the west?

The suite has a mini frig. It's in the newer building to the west, on the west side.

We've stayed at the DTG four times, each time either in the east building facing east or the west building facing west (because I always ask not to be facing the street front). The west building, west side is the quietest location. East building, east side gets some noise from the Gold Spike when they have late night music around the weekends.

The half door on the showers of the normal rooms are annoying, but this looks totally out of character with that suite. Looks like my parents' bathroom shower from 1982. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I think I'm in the minority on VMB but I like the DTG. The 1/2 shower door IS strange/different but I couldn't really care less. The rooms are nice and clean and like said above just get a room in the west tower as its quieter. Last time I stayed there they let me check in at 10:30am .

    Flusher,

Word. And coming from the man himself! Have you ever had a dealt royal? Your trip report is great, as always, but the fans are crying for some action!

A bigger thrill was my wife getting her first royal flush (triple double bonus on quarters in Reno, down to her last $10 out of a $100). Her seven years of waiting is over!

    Marcianofan,

I think there is a growing appreciation of the Downtown Grand on this board. It's generating more positive discussion than I can recall. It's our favorite place, replacing the Golden Nugget at the top of our list. We really like the "boutique" feel and quieter, less hectic location. The casino is very pleasant, though I wish they had a better beer selection and their floor mixed drinks vie with the Four Queens on the joke scale.

A couple of things I wish they'd do: fix the S&O Restaurant service, which has always been very slow. Just look at TripAdvisor reviews, and all the management comments regarding how they are addressing the issue, but they never do. Same old slow and indifferent servers who disappear for extended periods. Also, settle on something for awhile. They never leave things alone for very long in the casino. It now appears they don't have their Thursday bonus points, and at the moment they have $3 blackjack, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if that's gone when we return in the fall. Every time we go they've switched the Player's Club incentives and goofed around with the table games.

Yeah, the S&O is kinda bad. Last December was the last time I stayed at the DG and I went for an early meal at the S&O at 4:00, thought I'd try the prime rib as it looked good in the ad picture on the wall. The picture said its served after 4:00pm but the waiter says it's never served until AT LEAST 5:00pm. OK I thought, whatever. The day I left I had a really early flight so I went there to have breakfast and the steak breakfast ad on the wall looked good also so I thought I'd try it. Tried to Order the steak with the blueberry muffin that was also in the picture. The waiter said they hadn't the muffin in months and they were out of all bread except wheat. OK again whatever. But the steak looked nothing like the one in the picture, I think it was some kind of flank steak?? Oh, forgot to say that I had to wait 15-20 to order as the waiter was off somewhere doing something?? I like the place probably because I've had a cpl of big nights there playing blackjack, I just wish it was a LITTLE busier/livelier and there act was together a little more....

We stayed in Feb and after a three plus hour flight delay and a two plus hour wait at Dollar it was 5 am when we checked in so my brother and I went to S+O for the midnight to 6 am steak and eggs special. One guy was working. I really felt sorry for him and between seating ppl and waiting tables he really did his best and did it all with a smile on his face.
