I haven't been since 2007, but have been 3 times over New Year's Eve. Stayed at Golden Nugget each time. We all had a blast. You do have to purchase a ticket to access Fremont Street during New Year's Eve, I remember they shut down the street a few hours before they opened it around 5pm. So you have to walk the long way to access casinos while they are setting up for NYE. I believe I saw the tickets were $30 pre purchased or $40 at the gate this year. They do fireworks and have live bands. It does however get very crowded to the point you can barely get through the crowd closer to mid-night.
