Does use of the $xx.00 trick hurt your comped rate?

OK...first time comp user staying this weekend at Mirage. I'm booked for 4 nights, one of them is comped and the others greatly reduced rate. room is a standard 'Deluxe' king. If I use the aformentioned "trick" to try and get an upgrade to a view or a tower deluxe room, will this adversely affect my quoted rates/comp? T-4 and I can't wait.

Please post how it worked out when you return - I am in the same position arriving in Oct. I am at the Mirage with 3 nights comp and 1 I'm paying for. I'm thinking my chances are smaller since I am arriving on a Friday night. I'm really curious to see if it worked for you. Thanks!

The Mirage doesn't really offer much for the $20/trick. Just the Tower Deluxe King room or a Strip view from all reports I have ever seen... correct me if wrong.

You're right about the tower deluxe or strip view being about all that you typically would get for the tip trick, at least in my experience there. I'd be very happy with the tower deluxe upgrade, but the biggest difficulty we will have is that we don't arrive until about 11 pm on Thursday night. Better than 11 pm on Friday, but still not a great time to be asking for an upgrade!

We'll see what happens. 4 nights at only about $225 + tax (and resort fee) isn't too shabby for my limited level of play.

I got upgraded from a comped Tower Medium Floor Garden LCD Deluxe room to a High Tower Medium High Floor Pool View Plasma Deluxe room when I tried the $20 trick.

Okay, I've been drinking Ensure and Vodkas all night and I don't even know what that means.

    Update

Arrived at Mirage on Thursday nite 8/9 about 11 pm. Not too many desk clerks working, and those that were all had a guest. We had one comped night and 3 discounted nights offered through VIP services, so I walked up to the VIP checkin desk as a customer was leaving. Chatted up the nice young lady working there...good to be back etc....and had handed her my DL, CC, MLife Gold card, and $20 sandwich. She commented on what good rates I had, asked how long it had been since we were in town, etc. and I told her it would sure be awesome if she could get us into a Tower Deluxe room, and she immediately answered it shouldn't be a problem to let her check. I laughed and said that of course if she had a Mirage Suite, that would be better hahahaha. Her comment was that she had already been checking on the suites, but that due to the busy weekend coming up all the suites were full. She did get us in a nice Tower Deluxe room on the end of the hall (good and bad) that had windows on two sides (again, good and bad since the heat in the room was quite hot in the afternoon/evening due to the glass).

And no, it didn't hurt or change my room rates or comp.
