I was just thinking about my trip this year. Me and my parents we have gone for Christmas every year for the past maybe 6 years. Just curious if anyone else has this tradition!

We don't celebrate, so it's always fun to be there. The rooms are SUPER cheap the whole week before and during the holiday, and everything is open on Christmas, we've found this is the best time to visit.

Always surprises me the amount of people that come in on Christmas Eve or Christmas day.

My wife and I go on or near Christmas every year. We love it at that time and there's the added bonus of telling my family that we won't be around for the holiday. It's a great escape from the retarded drama.

    Christmas time in Vegas

It will be my first time in Vegas for Dec. 17th and coming home on Christmas Eve. I want to see the beautiful Christmas decorations in the
    Hotels.
Is it really cold in Vegas in Dec.? I do have some beautiful cashmere sp sweathers. Lucy

I don't go for Christmas, but I have been multiple times in December. Amazing fucking month to visit. No one's there, which means I can go anywhere and do whatever I want. No lines. No waiting for a cab. No bumping into people.

I've been to the Vegas Bowl (cold, but it's cheap, since there are always scalpers selling for next to nothing, and this year is a day game), college football conference championship weekend (the first weekend of the rodeo, which is only a problem if you don't book a room early ... the cowboys spend all their time at the rodeo, so the tables are empty) and the BCS title game (granted, in early January, but same idea). Each is a favorite trip of mine.

When I was young, I used to go during the summer with friends. Now, I can't think of anything more miserable than the crowds and heat of summer in Vegas. The winter is the best. Sure, it's cold, but only to us Southern Californians. It's still warmer than much of America, and you're indoors much of your Vegas trip anyway. Unless you're a pool person, it doesn't matter. And I live in Southern California, so pools are no big deal to me.

These days, I go to Vegas in the winter, with people or alone. It doesn't matter. It's fun either way.

It usually isn't too bad, Lucy. It'll be cold for an Angeleno, but not terrible. It's probably a little worse than L.A. is around that time. Keep in mind, much of your Vegas time is indoors.

I wear a sweatshirt and jeans and am generally fine.

I went last year mid Dec. It was a little too cold for me. We hit a cold snap and had three days of rain. I have been in Feb. and thought the weather was great, had 60's and 70's everyday, but no such luck in Dec. Too cold for me!

    I like Christmas trips

I usually go and travel home on Christmas day with my best friend. We started this tradition years ago when we were 22. I like going in December or all the reasons mentioned, but I don't think christmas is shoved down your throat in Vegas. It's a nice break from all the "cheer". I'm not a Christmas person. :peace:

That is a good point, you kind of had to look for "Christmas" it wasnt overwhelming as it is in the normal retail world in Dec. I may try it again, I just missed the good weather and def missed the pool time!

Jugdish is right. I love the lack of crowds too. And it's low-baller's paradise at that time, too, as the table minimums are nice and low. I remember being there playing 10 dollar plackjack at ENCORE. No lines for the buffet. YES!

I love the laid back vibe at this time. People just seem so much more relaxed. It can get a little chilly, but I've never had anything more than a light jacket. If you're in the casino, the temp is perfect, and if you're outside you're usually moving anyway. I wouldn't get too concerned about the rain. It's a desert. It happens sometimes, but not regularly.

Supposed to be going to the Caribbean for Xmas this year, but I have a feeling after this Vegas trip with my first-timer friend, we might have a change in plans. Who needs a tan when you can gamble and drink? ;) And we always go away at Christmas because we hate the Christmas family pressure.

Excellent time to go. Sixth year coming up. Got a Flamingo GO room for $32 . Can't beat that. So nice and quiet, too.

I went to Vegas from Christmas day to the 30th. First time going in December. Great time to go, for all the aforementioned reasons.

Mornings and nights can be chilly but it's nice. Walking back to your hotel at 2 am in the morning can be VERY COLD as the temp. drops to below 30 degrees sometimes.

    But I love it.

Have flown out on Xmas Day from the UK the past 3 years and stopped through to New Years - booked earlier this year so coming out on 22nd Dec.

It can get cold, but equally have spent some good days by the pool in January.

My wife and I do Christmas in Las Vegas every year. As others have noted, it's got several things going for it. One of my primary reasons for liking it is it's usually 20 to 30 degrees warmer than Salt Lake City. It's wonderful to be able to go out and only have to wear a light jacket.

I think I would go but not solo. If I was dating someone who was not into Christmas then I would go. I don't remember the last Christmas I had where I felt great, too much drama and family BS. I like church on Christmas but the family stuff ruins it for me. There are churches in Vegas that one could go to. I've gone around Thanksgiving and have seen the Christmas decorations in Vegas and loved them.

I have been there 3x the week up Christmas and usually leave on the Eve.
One time got back to the SPI and left for son's house Christmas morning a 6 hour drive north of Houston. On year I remember it got extremely cold with a 40 mile an hour wind. I think that was about 3 or 4 years ago. So check the weather so you can be prepared.

I do not like the Christmas renditions of shows (or that most shows are ghost during dead week). I do like the lack of crowds. I don't like the cold weather, and i would rather be there in the dead of summer than in the cold. But I do like the low minimums, year-round heated pools, low rates, Christmas displays, deals/incentives to come during the holidays...

But this may be my last Christmas because it is just too cold for me.

    Christmas at The Bellagio

We spend the week before Christmas at the Bellagio. The Conservatory is Festive and the Casinos are all decorated. Take a ride out to Ethel M factory. They have a Festival of Lights with a desert theme....really unique.
