Does anyone else have a "target" strategy for their trips?

I do go to attempt to win, but gambling is a negative expectation game.

Anyway, I am determined to get "as much" as I can out of my spend (losses).

It seems like the last two years, I have been targeting the holiday gift events, such as V/P (GGE), mLife (HGS) and most recently CET (GGWU).

This year I will have about $3,000 in points to spend between HGS and GGWU. HGS thanks to myVegas, and GGWU thanks to bonus events.

The gift events are in November (3-7) and December (11/30-12/4)

I realize that I have the flexibility since I am only an hour flight away from LV (GGWU points are only earnable Nevada and West)

Does anyone else use this to schedule their trips?

Next year I am thinking of focusing on GGWU bonus events.

Hi DaiLun - that's a nice amount to have, in my opinion worth the trips!

We like to visit Vegas in that late Nov-early Dec time frame and usually have a lot of mlife HGS points to use so we do try to time our trip to coincide with HGS dates to take advantage of our 'hard earned points' lol.
If I recall correctly, a few years ago mlife upper mgmt decided that if you were coming in on a comp offer during HGS event, you could not use your FP part of the comp and also use HGS points - my host called and apologized but that was mgmt's decision. I believe that restriction was only in place for a year or two? But last December 2015 we stayed and used both Freeplay and our HGS points on our stay - definitely worth it if one's schedule works out for those dates. Only comment on that mlife event is that not only is Mirage super crowded; seems a lot of folks are there for the same reason using up HGS Freeplay option but the system is glitchy and overloaded during those days with folks running to players club with Freeplay issues - staff at Mirage tells me it happens every year, haha - don't know if it's like that at all properties cause we always stay at Mirage for that event.

Best of luck in however you use those well earned 'gifts'.

We're MLife Platinum, used to be Noir, and we always felt like we were leaving benefits on the table when we never visited during the gift events. But, we've always stuck to our regular visit schedule of January, May, July and October-never tried to be there for an event. Same thing for tournaments, offers, etc. I doubt there's anything realistic that we'd be offered that would get us to change or schedule a new trip. Probably not smart of us.

We've had enough problems with MLife and MGM properties to have abandoned the system almost entirely. Mr. Wynn's completely opaque Red Card gets most of our points now. You never have any idea of what's happening with the Red Card, but we've never had cause to gripe about what we got back. The list of MLife perks at higher levels is very impressive and we miss them-we do not get any of those perks at Wynn at the same level of play and hotel expenditures, but we're happy there without them. Wynn pretty much treats nearly everyone like a VIP.

Interesting comments. This thing I "hate" about the HGS December event is that they use the Bellagio ballrooms that are furthest away from the casino. I mean, it must be 1/2+ mile away from the casino. A very tiring walk.

At HGS, do you go to the ballroom event, or just shop at the kiosks at Mirage? The ballroom event is quite a show, if you don't mind the walk. Hors d'oeuvers and drinks, and most of the items on display. The slot machines are there for the slot tournament (extra point giveaways). I usually get mLife gift cards and FP with my leftover points.

With CET you can't use any FP offers during GGWU either.

I used to have a "strategy" of "If you spend money on booze in Vegas, then you are doing it wrong"... but BeeJay turned me on to the "comp yourself" strategy and I have never looked back. If I want a drink, I go buy it at the bar instead of sitting around trying to scope out a CW to get a "free" one.

I still don't like to pay for rooms though.

My gambling strategy always goes to hell almost instantly

I don't target the GGWU, but I do have a strategy regarding the tier credits I want to earn in a given day.

Regarding the GGWU, does anyone know what 40,000 will get me?

Interesting comments . . . .I think I'll continue to stay at Caesar's and go out to visit/gamble. I only use the room to sleep, but I'm trying to change that . . .

This year for the first time I have planned a trip specifically to cash in my HGS points with Mlife. Last year I felt that I missed a great comp by not taking advantage of HGS. I also plan on booking at Cosmo to take advantage of their holiday cash back promotion which runs at the same time as the Mlife December HGS. I always stay for 5 nights anyway so 3 at Mlife and 2 at Cosmo will work out perfectly.

Typically, my BFF (Jaidee1), but if he can't make it I go solo. Once a year, I take one of my relatives.

DaiLun - we did stay at Bellagio awhile back for one HGS event and you are right - long walk - but they do it right - it's nice to view some of the merchandise before deciding; and has more of a 'Special event' feel. We mostly do Mirage because we like to use most of our HGS as Freeplay and have better luck on slots at Mirage than Bellagio and the Freeplay often turns into real moolah - not always though!!

Thanks @Elf70 for that info on Cosmo holiday cash back promo - new to staying at Cosmo this year so that's a plus when planning! Thanks again for sharing.

Can you explain who MyVegas got you HGS points? I don't recall any HGS connected reward on MyVegas. Is that something you got through a MyVegas host?

In 2014 it was through a host. In 2015, they opened it up to the general public, but they only did the December event.. If I recall, there were two packages offered. The one that I took was 3,000,000 LP for 500K HGS points and a 2 night stay was required.

Multiple packages were NOT allowed. I have no idea what the redemption levels will be this year, but my host told me that they will be starting early in order to do the November event as well.

Unfortunately travel date restrictions don't allow use to target specific dates and offers.
We usually have to pick a date and hope a decent offer comes in.

I too always try and go for the GGWU Point bonus days.
I have always enjoyed the GGWU at Caesar's and have already
booked again this year. Other than that - I usually go when my friends
will be there to meet up. My host is good about working in some offer
for me every time I go. But I do look for those extra point days for sure.
