Just had somebody the other day tell me that the only reason somebody wears a watch is to show off their wealth and impress others. They said there is no reason for somebody today to wear a watch. Of course I told them that was a load of crap and they had the problem, not the watch wearer.

Me too. Just a simple cellphone. That's all I need. The one I have if I were to drop it people would just kick it out of the way so nobody trips over it...:thumbsup:

Spoken like a man that has never had a nice watch I would say.. However to his defense, I never wear a watch unless I'm dressed up actually. There is something inherently tacky about taking a cell phone out and looking at the time while you're in your best attire I think. Call me old fashioned - or an asshole - but that's my opinion...However, seeing as how I spend most days here in the swamp in gym shorts and plain white t-shirts, the only way I know the time is with my trusted andriod, and the only jewelry worn is the mini handcuff...err, I mean, wedding ring.:wink2:

    Found what he said,

Yes. If is a reasonable utilitarian piece. If it's tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, it is fair to consider it a status seeking behavior (in my opinion only). On a planet filled with starving, thirsty and exhausted humans who'd be thrilled to have the foundation of Maslow's hierarchy in place, I see no good reason to devote resources to objects that don't serve a discernable purpose. Elitist like "I can buy more expensive things than you and that makes me better than you!

    I didn't agree with this.

I agree, I think it's more polite to check a watch than a cell phone. How come the non watch wearers I know are always asking me what time it is if they have their cel phone?

Meh, I inherited all or almost all of my stuff, could care less about status. Again, sounds like a person that has an axe to grind with those more affluent than them, or a communist that thinks we should all be equally poor and miserable. :ssst:

I had a few nice pieces before my mother passed away. I inherited her jewellery gene. But, we were both just happy with the cheap stuff. As long as it was new, different, shiny. The 2 of us together in a jewellery or accessories store was a really bad combo. I inherited all her jewellery except for a few pieces that went to my sister when my mother passed away. I feel like I'm taking her to Vegas with me when I wear something of hers. In my head, it's always going to be my mother's.

With my father's estate, I set aside a small portion to buy myself a good, grown up watch. One that cost more than $10. But, me being so dang cheap. I got a nose bleed with anything over $150. But, I did find a nice watch on Amazon under $150. Stainless with some gold and a diamond, the same brand as both my parents' good watches. At the age of 41, I have a "good" watch. I know somebody with a watch worth more than my house will laugh but I'm happy with it. And I'm sure the educated crackheads won't bother trying to steal it off me in Vegas.

Las Vegas is one of the few places I actually wear my expensive watch. It is pretty much the only jewelry men wear nowadays. It is an accessory of dressing up. Anyone who thinks it's gaudy would also discourage any diamond or gold outside a wedding band. Yes, jewelry are baubles without any specific purpose other than to attract attention to ourselves. Same as nice clothes, makeup, etc.

I've had comments on my watches. One from a pit boss who wrote down the brand so he could get one for himself. The other was from a girl while I was watching roulette late one night at Casino Royale. Her friend came up from the other side to talk to me also. I didn't figure out til later they were hookers. VMB Hooker Rule: If they look like hookers, they're college girls. If they look like college girls, they're hookers.

I don't own any best stuff, but if I did, I would not wear it because I wouldn't want to show up the two black girls in dominatrix outfits because they might beat me.

Wait a minute, that might be cool. :licklips:
