Prefer to stay on the strip. Our last trip was a 7-night and we arrived on a Friday so to save a few bucks we decided to take our first ever stay DT where we spent the first two nights before moving to the strip on a comp.
This upcoming trip we are arriving during Conexpo and the rates on the strip are waaaay to high (over $200 per night for the lower end CET rooms) for us low rollers, so once again we will be spending a few nights downtown before making our way back to the strip. Not by choice, but driven by cost! At least we had our rooms DT booked before they spiked their rates to convention rates. :poke:

We usually stay on the strip. We have stayed off-strip and DT, but everything we want to do is on the strip and we like to walk. Don't like to drive. Parking and valet are a hassle and usually inconvenient.

Staying on the strip again this trip. 5 days at the ARIA! :peace:

See that you only have to wait 19 hours for your trip. Wish you a great time!

I always stay on the strip. Tried one trip of staying downtown and hated it. I see myself staying on the strip for many years to come, I could care less to venture off strip.

I stayed downtown last year at the El Cortez Cabana Suites. The wife and I quickly figured out we're strip people. We're staying at the Wynn and Mirage at the end of the month.

    Strip for me.

Need to be able to walk outside and be right there. Downtown fine for a few hours. Off strip feels like the middle of nowhere.

That 20 minute walk to the strip would bring me back to 20 hours per day gambling and drinking - instead of 20 hours and 20 minutes !!!!:drunk:

We've stayed on the Strip (more than 45 trips since 1995) and have no desire to stay off strip.

We do off strip casinos often. Like Tunica, Biloxi, New Orleans, Cherokee.

In Vegas, we do the Strip. There is only one strip and that is what we do.

    LOL!:evillaugh

I love the strip. In past trips, I have stayed downtown and off-strip. These hotels are perfectly fine....if I were in another city. When in Vegas, I do Vegas.

I realized after a few trips that I was not crazy about other parts of Vegas at least not to stay. I have stayed at Four Queens, El Cortez, Main Street, Fremont and Golden Gate...so I think I gave downtown a fair shot! It's just not for me. I enjoy off-strip and downtown trips around Vegas to visit. But when downtown offers comps, I usually take them! This makes sense for my longer trips when 3 days downtown is only a fourth or less of the trip.

I love the energy and vibe of the strip especially on the weekends. I can't get that same energy downtown or off-strip. There is energy downtown but just of a different brand than the one I find on the strip. I love downtown though for how it makes me feel like I am going back in time. :licklips:

I am still not yet at a point where I must stay mid-strip, although I do try to fit in a mid-strip stay during each trip. I still enjoy the South strip very much. While I am not crazy about the North strip area, I still enjoy properties in that area.

I am so sold-out to the strip that I even stay on the strip on weekends whereas before, to save a buck, I would always stay off-strip. But it's true that for all the inconvenience, effort and cost of getting to and from the strip, I might as well stay in the comfort and luxury of the strip. I don't need a bus pass when I am on the strip especially when I am center strip. That saves me a lot of money as well. The ease of movement center-strip is invaluable actually because when I travel to most cities, transportation is necessary.

I love walking out into the sea of wonder and awe of newbies and downright excitement of vets. Practically everyone is in a good mood and ready to be their most fun selves! What an amazing feeling that Vegas brings.

The only exception to my Strip love is staying at the Gold Coast. I love that place. I also love the area with Gold Coast, Rio and Palms. It might even be my favorite area if the atmosphere and ease of movement of mid-strip didn't beat it!

All my trips so far, I have stayed on the Strip. I don't know if I want to stay downtown, because as far as I can tell it's not as nice up that way and the entertainment options aren't as good. I've heard it's less expensive though so maybe it's worth a try.

Only two trips under my belt, First trip was all strip.
As of now I like longer trips, planning a 10 nighter now.
Loving a good deal makes me like DT for at least part of the trip. In three days I can stroll through most of the casinos on and around Fremont.
Also I like having a car so off strip is OK too.

It was a progression for us

    Young - Strip only
    Older - Downtown
    Older still - Off strip

A contrarian here - I never stay on the Strip anymore and generally avoid it altogether! I started out on the Strip with Caesars Palace my first casino experience over 28 years ago, and subsequent trips have included no fewer than 14 different Strip hotels. (I keep good records.) Then I "discovered" downtown, and thanks to this board, the Orleans. My last Strip stays were at the Stardust (RIP), and once it went, so did I.

I sure don't want to rekindle the downtown vs. Strip debate, but after the first dozen or so trips, my interest was almost entirely gambling. Sure, I'd occasionally see a show, but this low roller found the table games, values, and overall atmosphere much more to my liking downtown and off-Strip.

These days, we mainly frequent all seven Vegas Boyd/Coast properties with only an occasional sojourn to another off-Strip property. We did visit Cosmo for the first time in December, and will "audition" the LVH later this month; but other than that, about the closest we get to the Strip these days is Ellis Island. To each their own!

I'm either on the strip or close (Rio/Palms). There was a time when I stayed downtown a lot but I've soured on DT for reasons discussed in other threads. I'm not thrilled with all of the strip "progress" over the years and I don't like the recent shopping trend but it's still a one of a kind place. But I also like the Rio and the Palms and the free shuttles are very convenient so that's a good option too IMO. As far as some of the locals casinos, Orleans, etc... not my cup of tea.

Are the shuttles to and from the Palms only for guests ?

And if no, where do they pick up on the strip ?

I do stay on the Strip, but only if it is comped. If I can self-comp anywhere, it would be 3-4 nights each at Wynn, Cosmo, Red Rock and 3-4 nights Downtown (The California, Golden Nugget or Cabana Suites).

I have stayed comped at Caesars Palace, PHo, LVH, The Orleans and The California during my last three actual trips. Will likely stay at some combination of these casinos this June.

My current Strip boundaries are Wynn to the North and Cosmo to the South, with the possible exception for an occasional stop in MGM for a $21 deposit into the Lion Slots and/or BJ. I enjoy the entire downtown area (from Atomic Lounge to the East through Main Street Station to the West).

I will likely continue to stay on the Strip due to the fact I can still get easy comps at CET and I like variety on my Vegas trips. I like to split my 6-14 night Vegas trips across two (6-8 nights) or three (9-14 nights) areas (Downtown, Strip & off Strip).

I wouldn't want to stay on the Strip, Downtown and/or off-Strip for an extended period of time. If I was going to Vegas just for a long weekend, I really don't have a preference between Downtown or the Strip beyond timing (Downtown for a weekend, Strip for weekday).

Stay on the strip where I get everything comped...however even if I was not comped I would stay on the strip. Don't mind an occasional visit downtown or off strip but would not stay.

I have never stayed on the Strip, I have stopped at the Stratosphere but not sure that counts, I'm usually priced out of stopping somewhere on the Strip, I have stopped off Strip at Desert Rose Resort and Tuscany and Downtown at El Cortez. I'm considering Tuscany again this years as it is just off Strip so it's a good price and your a 5 or so minutes walk away from being in Bally's

Palms shuttle is to/from Caesars, not just for guests. It only runs 11 -8 though. You can walk across the street to the Gold Coast, they have a shuttle that runs until 1 am that goes to Bally's. Or cross over to the Rio, they have two shuttles, one to/from Bally's, one to/from Harrahs. All run every half hour.
