If you hit a jackpot of 500.00 or more, do you keep the money and save it or figure it's fun money?
Five hundred would go into the play wallet. If it were over a thousand, I would make sure to take some of it home.
You have to take any win in context to the trip. I've had $500 wins that are a drop in the bucket of what I've already lost, and I've had them that are yet another win on a hot streak.
I don't subscribe to the concept of rationing my roll, so there are no magic envelopes I put money in to forget it. Hopefully some goes home, but if I win$500 on day one of eight...well there is a lot of Vegas yet to go.
Any profits I have from a trip either go in a stash for my next trip or I buy something for that amt. I love putting on a piece of jewelry and knowing that it was from a particular trip. Great way to keep the memories alive.
When someone wins a "jackpot", there are two choices:
1 - Keep it and do not play it.
2 - Keep playing with that money.
The real question is at what point does the decision even come into play. I know people that would stash $20. Others would keep playing after winning thousands.
It all comes down to your level of play, level of risk and lack of good common sense.
Personally, if I won a few thousand on day one, it would probably all get played. It just means I make less trips to the ATM.
I go to Vegas to play, not stand and watch.
Let me hear a giant AMEN!
+1 I also go to Vegas to play and not watch.
It depends who I'm with. Alone i might save most of it. With friends, it's probably going towards dinner. At the home casino i def would save it.
depends on how much the win is. Im not a big player just some small amounts for the fun, not to win much.
mostly if i play equal at a time i quit. if i have a big win will keep it to spend it on some drinks and will spend it on clothes etc.
It's coming home with me. I've no problem standing around and watching with money in my pocket.
I only shut it down, win or loss, the last day of the trip. I'm in Vegas for christ sake, I'm there to gamble and get away from my life. Certainly not there to be concerned with how much I may (or may not be) taking home. Take what you're willing to lose. It's entertainment, not a long-term investment strategy.
I use the envelope system (cause I got no control) and if I lose it all in a day then I know I have had a bad turn at gambling for that 24 hours. I can't be worried about getting my head into the game and all that crap. So it goes into an envelope and when I return with the next batch of envelopes on the next trip they are fatter and more fun than (as I have done) trying to recall how much fun I had with the extra cash that once back home was actually MONEY!! But to each his / her own as there have been plenty of times I have been entertained in Vegas by standing around and watching (some things you can't erase from your mind no matter how hard you try).
I like coming home with money in my pocket. But it is usually leftovers and not the other guy's money. That is fun....
If it's enough for a W2G, I'm putting it away because I hate to see that I'm paying taxes later when I squandered my winnings. That's an empty feeling.
So, the question is.. at what point does this happen?
I'm not really sure how much money we bring to vegas. My wife is in charge of that. We put $20 into a machine. If we get over $50, we cash it out and hold the ticket. It's the same system we use every time we go to a casino. We've never ran out of "seed" money yet. We play way below any sort of pain limit. Think we lost about 1% of our gross income last year. I spend way more on greens fees than gambling.
I almost always take home a hundred. If i win anything over sixty i will stash it away as take home and keep playing with my daily budget. I think twice i blew through my winnings and went home with nothing. My hubby is better at saving his money than I am. I think he keeps all his winnings as take home money.
No easy answer in the end.
On one trip, I was down about $3k. Finally it a $2k handpay when I was about broke - again. Kept playing with that winnings. By the end of the night and 5 handpays later, I was up about $5. That first handpay was long gone of course. Since it was the last night, I did take home about $5k.
I would take the $500 and parlay it into $2000 on the Craps table. Press my 5 and 9, woohoo!
I usually take $400-500 cash with me to play with (4 nights). I think the most I've come home with was $900. I try to put a big chunk away when I win but I'm there to play and have FUN! One time I came home with about $3 in change. I've always had a blast and it was worth every penny! I play almost the entire time we are there but I bet conservatively unless I'm significantly ahead for the trip.
Everything except gambling is written off as a business expense on my trips. That's the only way I can justify my yearly trip to DH who doesn't gamble and doesn't like Vegas.
