    hi,

wife and I had many trips to vegas before she passed early this year.

we liked the busy atmosphere on fremont and centre strip but those quieter places were good also.

now going solo I booked fremont for the weekend and have a couple days to wing it and considering somewhere quieter like gold coast, silver sevens or even a new place like silverton just for a bit more laid back vibe.
heck we even stayed at riviera where it was pretty quiet and enjoyed it.

what is everyone else`s take on this?

I like the atmosphere downtown and center strip, but I'm really not a big fan of huge crowds. Thats probably why I tend to disappear from my room in the middle of the night to gamble in peace. My friends always find it hilarious that we get back to the room at 3-4am and i'm down in the casino 15 minutes later. Then they hear me stumbling back in at 8am.

I prefer a mixture of both. I usually stay at the Luxor, and there is nothing going on that far south, so it's very relaxing and quiet. I then usually head towards the center of the strip for the craziness.

I'm the same way. I enjoy the craziness occasionally. But I like to be able to get away from it when I want. This is one reason I love Wynncore. If I want a more laid back environment, I'll hang out at Encore. When I want more action, I'll go to Wynn. And when I want all out craziness, I'll head to the center strip or DT casinos - and then come back "home" when I've had my fill.

I don't think it has to be either/or. My wife and I do both. She's an extrovert and loves the crowds. I'm an introvert, but I occasionally like the energy of large crowds. Since we both work from home, by the time we go to Vegas (once a year) we're both more than ready for some energetic fun. However, we also like a nice large room/suite where we can relax by ourselves when/if we get tired of the crowds.

By the way, sorry to hear about your wife. I hope you get the chance to reflect on happy memories of times you shared in Vegas.

Now that we are older, we enjoy less hustle and bustle. We're happy roaming around playing video poker where we do not have to push/be pushed or bump/be bumped to get around. We stay Downtown. When the weekend rolls around and it gets crowded, we get in our rental car and spend some time in Henderson and a few outlying casinos. Very rarely do we go to the Strip anymore. This is how we enjoy Las Vegas these days.

I like a mixture of both.

Generally I don't enjoy long lines (who does?!) and overcrowded areas. However when a big event is going on the hustle and bustle energy is invigorating especially at the craps tables.

Some trips we look for the craziness and non-stop while other trips we look for serenity and relaxation.

This upcoming solo trip I will be looking to take it easy and do a lot of wandering around. I will be getting a massage, straight razor shave and other spa treatments.

I love the energy from a busy casino and watching the craps table when people start yelling. I also enjoy people watching during the evening hours and seeing all the dressed up people.

However, I HATE overly crowded restaurants and bars and having to wait in line. I love to escape to my room when I feel overwhelmed and will happily hang out there for several hours.

So a little bit of both I guess :)

We like the hustle of center strip for a while but the reason we stay South Strip is it is more relaxing to us, the crows for the restaurants are lesser, the clubs USUALLY easier to access and the bars less crowded usually. When we want the craziness we head mid strip around midnight when the drunks are in full force.

Peace and quiet for me, be it a casino, pool, restaurant, hotel, CAT bus (well, maybe scratch that last one).
My happy spot used to be the Villa pool at the Stardust. It was separate from the regular pool/hot tub area, but readily accessible to anyone. Few people bothered to walk the extra distance to hang out there. It even had actual grass surrounding it and was completely hidden from the grind of Vegas. So peaceful and relaxing. Bummed the Stardust was imploded.
Another fave long gone was a couple of blackjack tables in the far corner of Encore. They've since refigured casino, but for awhile, it was a good place to get away from it all, yet still enjoy the atmosphere of being in an upscale casino.
I guess that also why I also prefer staying at the Hilton, I mean LVH, compared to DT or Strip properties. A refuge of calm.

I prefer things a little on the busier side up to a point. If I have to go to 3-4 casinos to find a decent spot at a BJ table or craps table, it is just too busy. I'm also not all that interested in walking on the strip when there are a total of 5 people within 200ft of me.

Maybe in like 30 years I'll be more interested in some of the locals casinos, right now there are just 2 main issues. First is I like to drink in the evenings so therefore driving is not possible. Second is a reason why #1 matters, I like to go around to multiple casinos. I'm not a person who can just sit on a table for a long time for the entire trip. I like being able to walk to many different casinos.

Laid back. Except for the first night. Then it's sleep in, a late breakfast / lunch, degeneracy. Rinse wash and repeat.

We prefer quiet and try to avoid the strip during busy times. We spend most of our Vegas time off strip at RR or GVR especially on weekends and holidays. Favorite time in LV is in December although that's been getting busier lately. When we're on the strip we tend to do our gambling in the morning when the casinos are empty.

The more the merrier for me. That's why I like going Thursday-mon. Many many times I have been sitting at Sullys bar at Ballys, quietly minding my own business when all of a sudden I realize, yeah, the California crowd is now here. It's way louder, crazier, more fun, etc. But then again, I get up early, very early, and am usually up and playing when the clubs get out. So I get my quiet me time, but I also get the best people watching...ever.

After watching Vegas Strip,( is that the one with the cops?) dh and I are determined this upcoming trip to get our gambling butts out of the casino and onto the strip to do more people watching late at night. One of the reasons I love vegas, lol.

We like the quieter places so we usually head out of town during the day and then stay in the hotel we are staying at in the evenings. Getting to old for the bar and nightclub scene.

Sorry to hear about your wife. I have thought about whether I could still go to Vegas if something ever happened to my wife and honestly I don't think I could ever go back without her but you never know until it happens.

Hope everything goes well for you.

I didn`t think I could do it either redzone but I tried once and just being busy and around people seemed to help a bit so am trying again friday for 6 nites.

got plaza booked for 3 nights because I like the pool and downtown is easy to duck back into the room if I need some quiet time and I think I will do riviera for the other 3.

not too far to walk to center strip and riviera is quieter and more laid back

    (and $2 bar drinks 24/7!!

I also really like the pool at riviera

Generally I like it laid back. Although it is fun to visit the strip when it's busy, but I do my serious gambling downtown.

I like it quite and relaxed. That way I have the option of going to the craziness if I want to, and leaving it behind when I've had enough.
