I just booked an offer for two nights in November. I stopped staying at Fitzgerald's because the beds were so uncomfortable. So I'm wondering, did/does the D's room remodel include replacing the beds and not just the bedding? Anybody know?

Jimbo, I never stayed at the old place, but my best guess would be that the beds are new. They were very comfortable.

    Good to hear. Thank you!
Consider yourself lucky you didn't stay at the old place because the beds were awful.

Good to hear, I'm booked there at the end of the month.
I had heard they were give out coupons for breakfast each morning of your stay is that still going on?

Back when it was Fitzgerald's they use to give out free breakfast coupons. I'm not sure if the D is continuing that perk.

we stayed there a couple of years ago and they were the most horrible beds we ever tried to sleep on.

we stayed at the new d a few months ago after calling to be assured that the beds were new and they are indeed fantastic.

I've often read reviews of people receiving the free breakfast coupons. However, we did not get any. This was in August.

they don`t even have the breakfast special anymore so I have my doubts about the free breakfast coupons.

    breakfast coupons

I was there last month with 3 buddies and had 2 rooms for 5 nights. They gave us 20 breakfast coupons at check-in. The breakfast was eggs, bacon or sausage, fried potatoes and toast. Drink was not complimentary. The rooms were nicely redone, the beds comfortable, although I don't remember them being bad when it was the Fitz, and free breakfast was just icing on the cake! Still one of my favorite places to stay downtown. Although the elevators can be a pain in the ass. Expect to wait for an elevator if you are on a high floor, especially on Sunday before check out time. We gave up and walked down the 27 flights. :)

Ah yes, I forgot about the slow elevators. I thought surely they'd be fixed by now.

You're lucky you didn't get a bad bed back when it was Fitzgerald's. They were awful.

We were on the 28th floor and didn't think the elevators were that bad. We weren't late for anything-LOL.

Disappointed to hear about the loss of the coupons but super excited to hear about the new, comfy beds. Really, really looking forward to my 9 nights now

The Fitzgerald on Fremont changed their name to "the D" and renovated. The new owner or owners were from Detroit, that is where the D comes from.

True the new owner is from Detroit, but I just read that the "D" represents the nick name that the owner has had for years...his friends call him "D", his name is Derick Stevens.

I just stayed there last week. Comfortable beds compared what they used to have. I got my roooms comped, but no breakfast coupons. The D -from what I hear-merged with Golden Gate. It's all good as long as we have fun.

Heading to the D in 33 days. (Hopefully) Everytime in the past that I booked the Fitz, some thing came up and I had to cancel my trip. Hope the third time is the lucky charm.

When we stayed there in August, they did have the coupons for breakfast.

I'll let you know if they still have them after tomorrow's arrival!
