While I was waiting for the WAX at the airport the ticket machine refused to take a credit card. One of the waiting patrons told me the fare was a dollar cheaper if I payed the driver, which it was. Just wondering if a pocketful of dollar coins would speed my entry, as I hate unfolding and feeding the bills one at a time.

Just like you, I like the WAX bus from the airport and also hate fumbling with cash. Just like you, on a recent trip, I found that the ticket vending machine there was broken.

Here's what I've done: If you have a PayPal account, you can visit rtcsouthernnevada.com and purchase a 3-day bus pass for $20. Shipping is free. No sales tax.

So, for $20, you'll get (after a few days) in the mail a bus pass and it'll be good on ALL routes (yes, WAX/Deuce/SDX/others) for 72 hours. Perfect for me, because I like to go between the Strip and downtown and sometimes off-strip (i.e. Rio, Sam's Town, etc.). This avoids me having to pay the driver or deal with machines.

    Hope this helps.

Has anyone ever used a dollar coin on a Vegas bus?

    They do take dollar coins.

The phone lady said the coin acceptors recognize "all forms of US currency." The WAX driver said "sure". Two gold coins were accepted no problem.

Thanks. At least that question is resolved with clarity.
