I don't know what is going on lately but literally every DD hand I play I am getting the worst possible card.

I can have 11 the dealer has a 6 showing, I double and pull a 2, the dealer flips an ace. (Playing at S17 table)

    I'll have a soft 16 the dealer a 5, again I double get a 6, she flips a 6 followed by maybe a 2 then bang a 7.

This went on in Vegas a few weeks ago and again yesterday in Pa.

Anybody else ever have such a consistent bad run on these "money making" bets you just want to forget them all together?:grrr:

Welcome to the world of blackjack variance. Just laugh it off and keep shoving those chips into the betting circle when you are presented with a double-down opportunity.

Hang in there- it will change.

I've had similar runs and then suddenly it goes the other way and you catch a hot streak.
It's BJ,play right and it levels out.

I've noticed for years that double downs seem to run in big steaks. You (well, I at least!) seem to have times where you nail them all --- then dozens of hands over a few shoes that you get slapped down again and again. My "favorite" is the A on my 11 !!

My bane seems to be splitting A's (or maybe it's because I just remember those hands). Can never seem to get quality cards when I split them. I keep swearing I'm just going to hit them one of these days, but of course I never do.

Ha! You and me both, brother! I swear I get a dozen 3's and 4's for every 10 I get when splitting aces. :grrr:

Last year at Caesars, dealer showing a 4-6 (don't remember), get 9-9. Split them, get another 9. . I end up going 19 19 20 and I'm feeling pretty good about myself here.

Dealer has a T underneath, and then pulls whatever card she needed for a 21.

Going to PA was the problem

That would have never happened in AC.

Ugh that beautiful ace always seems to be wasted on this hand for me as well. I wish I could make a side bet on it happening.

It sucks happygirl, but any BJ player has been there. I have those days/trips where absolutely no hand that should be good works out and I get to the point where I get a nice double opportunity and I know it in my bones that I'll get raped, and I do! It's like a given.

Just went to local casino last night. Was doing well, little ahead before I got slammed hard after the other player left and i was left one-on-one with the dealer. It's like I can't win a single hand at least 10 times in a row. Worst possible hands when I double on 11 (that's getting an ace). Always bust when I hit a 12. Then I put in a big bet thinking dealer can't be this lucky, finally got 19, and guess what, dealer pulls a 19 too. Was so pissed, I change table. No change in luck. Dealer started with 3BJs almost in a row then for a while is solid 18,19, or 20. I've been getting the crappy 3s,4s,5s,6s with a 10 95% of the time. Then when I finally got a 20 or 21, I'll either win by a point against the dealer or pushes.

It is what it is. That's what you call luck and gambling. I'm sure every long time player had experienced being crushed at some point. :(

Seriously I have been having the same exact thing happen minus beating dealer by a point. It got to the point I was thrilled to push, lol. I can not remember a time in the past 22 years when it's been so pitiful.

Finally I decided enough was enough and left. Unfortunately it was not as easy to go home when I was LV but luckily there are plenty other things to do there.

Just hope for a better outcome next time::rolleyes2:

I feel your pain, those double downs can really make or break a session. There's not many better feelings at the table when you're hitting on all of your double downs and there's not many worse feelings than getting the shaft on a handful of double downs. As some others have said, it seems like I get those aces on an 11 far more than I get an ace with a 10 sitting out there.

    Hey Now!!!!

Last month I was playing a shoe game in AC. I was up to a little more than doulbe my buy in. I upped my bet to 3 units and was dealt a pair of 6's to the dealer's 6. I split. First card was a 6. I re-split. Next card was a 5. I doubled and drew a 3. Next hand, I drew a 4 and doubled. Drew a 4. Last hand I drew a 3. Doubled and drew an Ace. Not too bad- I had a 14, a 14, and a 20. Dealer turns over a 10....and draws a 5. She had 21. I was down 15 units just like that...

Not the worst in terms of money lost and at least I got a push on one of the 6 hands:

It's a game where doubling on hard 9-11 is "free" as well, as well as "free" splitting any pair but 10s. However the price you pay for this is that any dealer 22 becomes a push, similar to "Blackjack Switch", created by the same guy. The net house advantage is a bit higher than regular blackjack.

Some of the rules listed in the link have been changing toward the house's favor as of late though at some places, like no surrender, and double on only first two cards. More discussion is here:
