I'm a relatively new Diamond with CET (thanks FoundersCard!) and this is my first trip to the Rio after this upgrade.

I know from using the $20 trick that there is such a thing as a "diamond floor" at the Rio. I was on 20 in Ipanema then.

Anyone care to catch me up on what current policies are and what I should request when i get there on August 10th?

    Thanks!

While I'd still like some wisdom from the wise here, I've noticed a fascinating detail about CET's reservation system: my assigned room type keeps changing. My original reservation email simply displays: NS 1K MTN/VW

A few days ago, in the Play by TR app my reservation was showing as Samba mountain view. I questioned this since i don't remember it displaying like that before in the app...

I just opened the app now and it changed *before my eyes* to Strip View (NS 1K SAMBA S/V, MT) as it loaded my account info.

Note that I've not done ANYTHING to the reservation.

Looking forward to flying out on Wednesday!

I can't speak to your original question though I would be curious to know the answer as I am also recently Diamond and, while I have always liked the Rio in the past, I am concerned about the current condition of the rooms. Would be nice to know that they are at least giving their best ones to their best customers. I can say that I have also seen my room reservation change in the app before to an upgraded room and have also been upgraded at check in without asking. I think you are simply getting upgraded to the best available room that they expect to have in inventory when you check in. Looking forward to hearing about your trip.

I should note that I have two "friends and family" rooms booked for my group. Those two reservations got the rip-off "reserve a space available room upgrade for a fee" e-mail; my reservation got nothing.

That's a good room...we went last December and stayed on the 28th floor, in the Masquerade Tower, in a 1-King Samba...it's really just the "base" room in the MT (they have refurb'd them).
Most people hate on Rio...but it's a decent hotel (large rooms).

It's been awhile since I was a Diamond at CET but essentially Diamond rooms are usually rooms in preferred locations that they do more maintenance on. In the past at Rio when there was one standard room, it meant a room on the high floor in Ipenema because they were updated and the rest weren't. Sometimes it meant a bump up in room class, sometimes not. At Paris, instead of a red room or P room, I still got a blue room but the one I got had been refreshed and had a new mattress. Being Diamond also didn't guarantee a view.

Go in expecting the nicest room in the class you reserved. Depending on availability and your playing history, they will move you up That's what's happening to vinniemac274's reservation.

I looked online on the website. The list of reservations remembers what the reservation was when it was first looked up online:

Interestingly enough, the reservation status page cannot properly display the current room type:

Fascinating how their computer system handles things...
