    My Trip Report

Mods, I had originally started to write a live report with the intent on finishing it when the trip was over. Due to some family issues on my return i never did {family are weird when it comes to money}. I tried to find my abandoned report and take it down but couldn't. My apologies about that. Let me know if you need me to anything. Thanks....

All. This trip report is for a birthday trip for myself and my much better half in late Nov 2014. Some of the dates are a bit blurry but I'll try my best to make it as accurate and as entertaining as possible.

    Day - 1:

The GF would be flying into LV from San Antonio from a business trip which had left me to fly out of DCA solo on a cold Nov morning on US air landing in Vegas at around 11am. She would be joining me later that evening at around 11pm. This left me with the afternoon to start destroying my liver and with any luck the tables. My flight was on time and pretty uneventful.

Cab to the GG downtown was about $25 taking back streets. V nice cab driver, had no issues when i asked him not to take the tunnel or freeway. I had booked a suite at the GG and was able to check in early. Some pics.

Woke up to this every morning.

Now, the suite is nice. Don't expect anything like the strip. In fact the room is probably the same size as some of the larger rooms on the strip. I requested a room away from the Freemont St side so no noise. The room was clean and came with a safe, keruig {sp?} coffee maker and a small fridge. The bathroom set up is interesting. What I though was a wet-bar turned out to be the bathroom sink. I would recommend the room for a couple
    only.

I dropped my bags and made my way down the street to Wallgreens to pick up supplies and some bubbly for when the missus arrived. While on the way back placed and BIG FAT THURSDAY NIGHT LOOSER {fml} and a few other NFL/NCAAFB/NBA bets. Also a puffy parlay for the GF:

I want to say i finished down a little on bets for the trip.

After dropping the things off in the room I headed over to the GN to play some poker. The room there is a little cut off and is not great for people watching. I was looking forward to playing a deep uncapped 1-2 nl game as I usually play the 5-10 nl at MD Live. No joy, I buy in for $500 in chips and keep another $500 behind in cash. After playing a few orbits I realize that i have everyone covered by at least $700. Pretty disappointed I play for a couple of hour and leave up about $150. Not once did anyone sit down with over a $500 buy in. I had heard things about people buying in for thousands but didn't see this once in my 2 sessions.

I headed back to the GG at around 5pm and spent the next 5 hours trying to break the world record for wild turkey's on the rocks drank in minimal time. This was all while playing heads up BJ for $25 a hand. Surprisingly this didn't end as badly as you would have though. I think i ended up down about $75 for the session. After this i stumbled back up to the room jumped in the shower and waited for the GF to arrive. She's so lucky to have me....

Booked a car from Presidential for the GF so she was pleasantly surprised at the airport. We cracked the bubbly and caught up. Hit the sack at about 1am.

    Day 1 donskie.

    Day 2 - Friday....... i think

Woke at about 5am and tried to go back to sleep. No luck. The 12-15 Wild Turkey's were probably not helping with the sleep either. I slam down a pedialyte and chase it with 10,000 IUs of Vit D/B12. Nearly normal.

Because im nationally ranked in the top 10 for boyfriends I head down to grab coffee for the GF from Dupars. While im waiting for the coffee i spot the pancakes and decide that we have to get those for breakfast and head up to the room to grab the GF. Gotta say, I know you pay for it but the pancakes there are pretty amazing. I crush 5 and feel like shit for a good 3 hours. Well worth it though.

Today was downtown day. I wanted to checkout the DT Grand so we head over there and play some type of Devils slot. GF wins about $200 Im down about $100. After that we go to the Triple George for drinks. I, of course, had a Manhattan:

Not bad. I really like the vibe in this place and will try the food when we next go back. Lots of dark oak, friendly bartender and good looking menu.

We head for Le Thai for lunch at the GFs request:
    20141122_135308.jpg
Green curry, drunken noodles and some spare rib fried rice. I'd murder children for that fried rice.

Afterward we head back to to MMS and spend the afternoon playing roulette. Of course the GF wins a little over $100 and i take a good longdicking for $450. Fml. We decide to take a power nap after this so its back to the GG.

I wake up at about 8pm and head down to some BJ solo. GF is watch some housewives show and will not be torn away from it. I sit at a table with a family from Utah {mother, father and 2 sons} and have a great time talking it up and winning. All 4 of them knew basic stat and were very pleasant to talk to. Good times, plus 8 more wild turkeys. After they left i played solo for about 2 hours. The semi naked dealers were all out in force. I was lucky enough to have several smoke show dealers who where very friendly and good at their jobs. Some of the day time dealers at the GG cant count and i have to correct them at least 4 times on incorrect busts. Weird because i would have guessed the late people to be worse. GF comes down and grabs me and we head to Oak & Ivy in the container park.

Now, I like the container park but can't see this place staying in business for to long. Its v cute and has some interesting places but is just a little to far out of the way. Oak & Ivy is a small bar {6 indoor seats} that specialize in American whiskey/cocktails. they have a great selection or bourbons and will happily create you a drink based on you're tastes. The bartenders are highly skilled and know what they are doing. For me and the GF the drink of choice is a Manhattan. This is typically made with rye bourbon {2 parts}, bitters {2 drops} and sweet vermouth {1 parts} and is always STIRRED. We basically just let the guys working create a different drink for each round based on what we wanted. All were great bar one which was made with saraparilla bitters. Not my choice. All in all i drank about 7-8 of these. We also met a local couple who sat and drank with us for a good 3 hours. We had a great time talking to them about living in LV and what they thought of the place. If you ever go ask for Pinto. He'll look after you.

By this time we're totally shitfaced and I think we tried to get into Giltter Gultch but they weren't having it {thank good}. The GF even offered to dance. Pretty sure we crashed at about 2-3am.

    Day 3

Today is the GFs bday and I have a plan.

We wake up a little late, probably 7am. Both not feeling great. Not to worry more pedialyte and vitD/B12. Unfortunately this doesn't really do the trick so its off to the casino bar for some hair of the dog for me and coffee with Baileys for the GF. After a couple of drinks we grab a v greasy breakfast at Dupars and take a morning stroll. Today i have arranged a couples massage at the GN then we are going to head to the strip for a look around. 7pm bubbly at the Mandarin bar in the MO and 9pm dinner reservations at L'Atelier.

We arrive at the GN for a massages and are escorted to the dressing room by an attendant who grabs us drinks, robe and sandals. We then both get a pretty good rub down in a small room with the 2 tables. My girl did a pretty through job and at my request went to town on the hamstrings. No idea why im telling you guys this???? The GF is happy and heads off to enjoy the other spa amenities while i shower and go to play poker again.

Not much to add about the poker. Not sure if it was just the time of year but there was very little action DT. I stopped by Binions also and it was pretty dead there. I guess its the strip for future poker trips. I tried.

We meet up at the GG and play a little BJ and some roulette together and then head up for a nap.

    20141121_173529.jpg 20141121_173628.jpg
    Off to the strip....

We get dropped of at Ballys {don't ask why i have a soft spot for this place} and head over to the Devils Alive slot machine. The GF won a $1200 jackpot on here a few years ago playing $1.25 a spin so always want to play. We play for a good 1 hour until i hit some kind of bonus for $250. First slot win ever for me over $20. NOT TOO SHABBY!!!!! One thing i noticed. We only seem to play slots that have devil aspect somewhere in the game! My GF of course think this is funny.

After Ballys we head to the Mandarin bar for a bottle of bubbly and a nice window view of the strip. I promised i'd leave my phone in the room for her bday evening so no pics. When you order a bottle of bubbly at the Mbar it comes with a fruit plate and some mixed nuts which i thought was a nice touch. The place was dead for a Sat night which was fine for us but a little surprising.

Afterwards we decided to walk up to the MGM. I'm not a fan of the MGM and would probably never go in there if it wasn't for the restaurants. Its to big and for some reason always really smokey. We are seated promptly and enjoying the seasonal menu with a couple of bottles of wine.

It was good as always and the fish courses were definitely the stand out. I just prefer their Autumn menu. When we finish its getting late and leaving the MGM is a shit show. Its official, at the ripe old age of 35 i hate young people. I had arranged for a limo to pick us up so no cab line but we did have to wait outside for a few minutes and got to experience some not so hot game by some young 20 something men. Long story short their group started to talk to some girls then one of the guys asked for a number. Said girl gave the guy a number but instead of leaving with the number the guy immediately called the number to 'make sure its the right one'. Of course the number didn't work and he kinda started to give the girl a hard time. All of this is happening in the cab line 20 yards from where we are waiting for the limo so everyone can hear. In the end some guy in the line yelled "shes just not that in to you asshole". Both me and the GF pissed ourselves laughing as did the 50 or so other people standing around. Ah Vegas.

Back to the room and straight to bed. West coast NFL. Gotta get up early for that.

    Day 4

Looks like i might be off by a day. Jesus.

Anyhoo, woke at 8am to a real asskicking hangover. I mean, i felt like i'd been worked over by the guys from Shawshank Redemption. Poor Andy.

We hit up Dupars for breakfast as usual. Went with the eggs, hash and bacon this time. Really good coffee there. GF has decided to nurse her hangover in the room and do some work so i was solo. I hit the D to place a few more NFL bets then pretty much spent the whole day sitting at the outside bar of the GN drinking 24oz beers {see re-hydration}. Watched all of the early games here then headed on back to the GG to play some BJ. I pretty much played solo for the whole trip other than one time. This can make for some pretty quick swings and i was down as much as $500 before finishing down about $150 for the session. The GF joined for some roulette where we played with one of the girls who is in the ads on the TV hotel channel. Super hot chick and v friendly. I gotta say though, we played roulette for a good 1 hour and at least 10 guys/groups of guys walked by the table and made a comment to her about how she looked. None of them where rude but it makes me wonder if these girls just totally switch off after a while. This must be a complete turn off after a while right?

We finish off down a few bucks then head over to the 777 for some prime rib. I get the king and the GF gets the queen. For $24 it was pretty tasty as i wasn't expecting to much. The horseradish the have there is super hot though. Beware. Rinsed the food down with a few IPA and watched the late NFL game at the bar. After dinner we headed back to the GG to try to play some more but the previous nights had court up with us and we both headed to bed a little before 12pm. I know, i know pair of softies.

    Day 5

Not much to add here. Check out and jumped in the car for the airport. Another Vegas trip in the books. Will be back solo for March Madness and again in Nov 2015.

    :evillaugh Love this!

And as for the GN poker game, I don't think it typically runs super deep. Except for the "Duke of Fremont" who I have read is quite nitty, and his huge buy-ins are mostly for show.

    Good report thanks for sharing!
