The Delano comes as the Mandalay Bay embarks on a $66 million expansion that will boost its convention center from the seventh- to the fifth-largest facility of its kind in the United States. Bowling said the convention and meeting sector, which keeps Las Vegas’ economy humming during the weekdays, has been an especially bright spot in the city’s economic recovery.

Though I've always wanted to stay at Mandalay Bay or THEHotel, I've just never been able to pull the trigger. With this renovation and based on the times I've been there, I'm sure I'd like the hotel, casino, and pool. But as a person who spends the majority of my trips wandering up and down the Strip, I just can't imagine plopping myself down at the very end of the action with only one direction to go. Ah well, perhaps one day I'll change my mind.

I'm bummed for different reasons. I don't know what is going on in the convention/conference world, but Vegas is *too* popular and the convention I attend with my husband every February moved from MBay to Sands in 2013 (ugh) and now they're saying Vegas is off the schedule for good/for a while because this convention moves around and they aren't able to get reservations in Vegas, where loyalty is rewarded (eg you have to reserve every year, not every 3 years)

I'm happy they're expanding the MBay convention center - I just hope I get to attend a show there again!

(and in my experience, it does suck being at the far end of the Strip but when I'm attending a show, I'm too tired to do anything after working all day anyway, so it doesn't really matter:peace:) At least the hotel rooms are nice:thumbsup:

All i ever heard was that it was so far away from everything and people prefer middle of the road to where the action is.

We stayed at MB and had a bus pass, we LOVED MB. There is also the tram to excal and then you can get over to NYNY easy so it doesn't take long at all to be in the thick of it all.

We stayed at MC at the end of our trip. While it is closer to the action i did not like the place, the only thing that beat out MB was the bathroom.

Yeah, like I said I'd probably love staying there as far as the property itself goes, I just prefer to walk out the front door and be in the middle of everything. It's a mental thing for me. There's nothing like waking up and walking out the door to the sights and sounds of the central Strip area surrounded by all of those hotels, people, etc. If they picked up Mandalay Bay and placed it anywhere central Strip, I probably would have stayed there at least once by now, if not more than that.

But who knows, perhaps one day in the future I will change my mind and give it a shot.
