We will be in Vegas for 5 nights in 3 weeks. We are thinking about taking a day and renting a car and doing some sightseeing. The thought was to head out early and see Hoover Dam and maybe Red Rock canyon. Anybody ever do that in one day? If so which one would be better to hit first?

You could do both in one day if you wanted. Hoover Dam including tour will take 1/2 day. You could add a Lake Mead cruise for another 2 hours or so. I haven't been to Red Rock Canyon.

You can easily do both of those in a day. Valley of Fire is also worthwhile, only about a 45 minute drive. Last week we drove out to Death Valley simply because we'd never been there before. We also stopped at a ghost town (Rhyolite) on the way, which was cool and then stopped in Pahrump. There are 2 wineries in Pahrump (about an hour drive) if you enjoy that sort if thing. We toured one of them (very short and not that great) but they did have some good wines. And of course there are brothels there if that interests you :)

I recommend Red Rock Canyon. There are many trails for all skill levels that you can stop and walk on. Or you can just drive the scenic loop and take lots of great photos!

I would do Red Rock first. You might want to do a hike and that would be better to do early in the day......before it gets too hot.

Valley of fire is a great trip and you can do lake Mead as well. The dam and red rock are in opposite areas.

We wanted to go see these sights last year when we were there end of June/beginning of July but it was 110-115 all week so too hot. We decided to book our trip this year the 1st week of June to get a little cooler weather and hopefully get out and see some things.
