Below is our itinerary that I planned for a day trip...I've made many trips to Vegas but never made our way off the strip or downtown. We will have a rental this time so I planned this trip.

Leave Monte Carlo early morning and travel to these locations in this order:

    1. Red Rock Canyon
    2. Mt Charleston
    3. Valley of Fire
    4. Hoover Dam
    5. Back to Monte Carlo

That's a long day trip! We spent about 6 hours just at Valley of fire walking about and looking at the rocks n stuff, and it's a two hour round trip to get there.

BTW the gas station on I15 at the Valley of Fire highway turnoff does excellent coffee and pancakes :licklips:

I agree with the previous two, that is way too much. Even if you wind up fitting everything in you will enjoy none of it. We did Hoover Dam and Red Rock on two separate days last summer. Even just trying to do both of those on the same day would have felt more like a chore than a vacation, but it would be doable.

If you're going to Hoover Dam expect to spend about 2 hours just driving the round trip. You should take the tours to get the inside look at the engineering and construction. Otherwise its pretty pointless to go and just walk around the top. You will spend a couple of hours there so figure at least 4-5 hours for the entire trip.

You can go to Red Rock afterwards but if you want to hike I'd suggest doing that on its own day. Otherwise the loop is a nice drive and you can take your time and get out in multiple places along the way for pictures or a little exploring. Afterwards you can check out Red Rock Casino, maybe play a little there and have dinner before heading back to the strip.

I've decided to break this up into three days, I will be in Vegas 11 days so I can take 3 days for these day trips.

Day 1: Red Rock & Hoover Dam - Take the loop, walk around a bit, then over to Hoover Dam

Day 2: Mt Charleston - Did some investigation tons of trails going to do an all day outing at Mt. Charleston

Day 3: Valley of Fire - After investigation looks like I could spend all day here.
