    My Trip Report

I'm sure all of you know how we anticipate and plan our Vegas excursions only to find them over before we know it.

Well another one has come and gone. My wife and I left Saturday and got home Thursday. The weather in Vegas was cold but sunny. Finally warmed up into the 50's the day we had to come home. We had a Saturday night stay at Arizona Charlies on Boulder Highway. Then 4 free nights at Terrible's new tower.

I have stayed at AZ Charlies Boulder before and found the room to be nothing more than a Motel 6 type room. Upon check in I was told 2 double beds non smoking. I asked if I could get a King. What a difference that made. It's not a small room but a 2 room small suite. Living quarters in one room with a separate bedroom. [IMG]

There were a few crazies in the sauna by the pool at night. It was about 28 degrees at night. We had a little luck playing VP and had a pretty decent buffet with the ACG 2 for 1. I couldn't complain for 65 bucks on a Saturday night, the room served it's purpose.

Sunday morning we ate at AZ Charlies cafe. Boulder and Decatur both have decent breakfast specials. We did some casino hopping and checked into Terribles. The free offers came to me and my wife so we were able to combine them for 4 free nights. The room was in the new tower which is only about 6 stories. The room was adequate size and still had that new smell to it. I was very pleased especially for free. Here are some pics:

Some high moments at Terribles were I won my 10 dollar match play. I played mostly DDB VP and got my fair share of 4OAK including 4 Aces and Fours but no kicker. My wife played DB and of course got the kickers which didn't do her any good. :nono: I told her to play DDB but she opted for the higher full house flush payout. Which brings me to this subject. For all the VP players out there I see a push toward a new game Triple Bonus and Triple Bonus Plus. I saw pay tables as bad as 6/5 and only 2 for 3 of a kind. The top end goes as high as 4000 for a royal or 4 aces with the 2,3,4 kicker. It gives us a better chance to get 4000 payoff but I don't know if it's worth it.

Another sour note. The Orleans has put the knife in the backs of 5 and 10 cent VP players. What used to be 9/7/5 games have dropped to 8/5/4. 25 cent games have dropped to 9/6. I went through the whole casino and found them all like this. One of my favorite casinos has slapped me in the face. Oh well, at least Gold Coast and Suncoast hadn't changed but we will see. South Point hasn't changed either.

Here is a view from Terribles parking garage at sunset.

Dang It Goes Too Quick Part II

Sunday evening we stopped out Henderson way to Fiesta Henderson. At least I know I can play Optimum VP there. 10/7 DB or DDB or Deuces Wild. My wife and I were playing as a team so when one of us hit 4 OAK, if we were up we would walk. Wife seemed to be doing most of the hitting for the start of the trip. We were making some money or pretty much breaking even. Hey it's 8 PM Sunday night let's go see MIKEY.

Head over to Sunset Station and find Mikey on Rapid Roulette. You can play for as little as .25 with a 2 dollar minimum. I'm not sure how well this game will do because alot of people like to play at the table spreading their chips everywhere. I like it myself because you don't have to fight everybody at a full table trying to get your chips played. It's just you and your computer screen with a clock ticking down to place your bets. You can also make small wagers which you can't always do elsewhwere. We confirmed our get together with Mikey for The Wynn and went on to VP. There is always a chance to hit the Jumbo Jackpot at the Stations Casinos if you play with your slot card. No luck.

The rest of the trip was mostly casino hopping. Here is what you see mostly on the strip now. [IMG]

Cranes and more cranes and high rises going up everywhere. It just keeps changing constantly.

We went downtown to check out the Gold Nugget. Here are some pics of the new pool: [IMG]

The pool was closed but the bar outside was open but it was freezing outside. The good thing was at least it was sunny all the time.

We went out to Red Rock for the buffet thanks to ACG. Since GVR's buffet seems to have slipped for us we were hoping this would be good. We thought it was excellent. It has just about everything for everybody including sushi and a beautiful atmosphere. The price can't be beat with the 2 for 1.

We also tried the buffet out at The Silverton on our way to South Point. I know they had remodeled the Silverton buffet room and they did a great job. The buffet was very good also. They also have a pretty decent casino. $5 dollar Pai Gow tables that we could actually play on. Getting a seat at a table can be a challenge sometimes. Another hidden gem were a couple banks of Bob Dancer approved full pay VP machines. If you rent a car go south on the strip or take 15 South to Blue Diamond road. I don't think you will be disapointed.

Wednesday night was our last night in town. I hate that feeling that sets in when it's time to go home. We went to The Wynn and hooked up with the T2V gang that was in town. We were in the Parasol up lounge and to my surprise there were about 12 of us. The group just seemed to keep growing. I'm glad I was able to meet all of you that were there. :) I don't want to start naming people because I know I will leave somebody out.

All in all it was a fun and relaxing trip. Gambling and food together down about 500 bucks for the 5 nights for my wife and I combined. If one of us hit a Royal we would have done really well. Not this trip.

    Thanks!

The combined report and pictures just increases my anticipation for my upcoming March/April trip.
Thanks especially for the Golden Nugget pool pics. When I was there last July, it was just a hole in the ground. It looks great. Now all we need is warm weather!
Glad the both of you had a good time.

Nice pics and you're right about VP I think that in a few years you wont be able to find a machine that isn't a 9/6 and you'll probably see fewer VP machines and more slot machines.

Nice TR Jim. My son liked the pics of the pool area at GN. He said, "DAD that looks so cool, you gotta take me to Vegas."

    Houston, we have a problem.

Thanks for so many large and beautiful pictures.

I agree that the Orleans has stuck one in our backs. And if the VP has dropped, don't you think they also dropped the slot payouts. You can't tell, but it makes perfect sense. I wrote them and complained and urge you to do so also. We can only hope that fewer people play there. I can't imagine it continuing as a locals casino.

I always enjoy the Silverton. Last trip we watched a mermaid show. Quite an aquarium and that Bass Pro Shop is wonderful. We enjoyed shooting the lazer rifles. Pretty decent fun for a quarter.

I used to have the problem of too little time, but now I am retired with more time than money. But frugality pays off. I was there for 24 nights in August and it cost next to nothing.

    Well, thanks again.

    Nice report Jimbucc.

    Thanks for the pics.

Always interesting to get a feel for some of the outer lying casinos and hotels that are in the LV area. We don't get a lot of information on them like the Strip and Fremont St. spots that the majority of folk stay at.

I'd have no problem staying at either one based on the pictures that you provided.

My only experience with AZ Charlie’s Boulder was a few years back, the bride and I had the Thanksgiving Buffet during a November trip. Horrid meal, but I guess one shouldn't judge everything about a place based on one faux pas.

I'll be keeping these places in mind now when looking at future trips. I'm one who likes to split my LV stays, so either one of these spots, and my old faithful, the LV Hilton, would work just fine for a 4 or 5 nighter. :D

    Thanks for the write-up.

BTW, the GN pool area does look nifty. That will be something else to check out on a future Sin City jaunt.

Now if I can only get the few RR Credits I need.....:evillaugh - I might just have a free RT ticket...:)
