Booked today for Phoenix. Going to Spring Training at the end of February.

Mid size car for 5 days: pricey at $268.

    Taxes & fees: $133 for a total of $401.63.

Yea, I know I'll continue to shop, but the taxes are ridiculous:cry:

looked up my PHX rate from last March 7th, 5 days via Hotwire

    $24.95/day for 5 days + $83.54 taxes/fees = $208.29

I also had an Avis res that I canceled which was for $261, booked the Hotwire rate a week out

Thanks, I guess when it gets closer, I'll give Hotwire a look. But still, the fees and taxes are crazy.

I think I looked at the FlyerTalk forums for a good month or two trying out various rental car discount codes; the Avis discount was very strange, someone posted the code and the discount was strictly for compact SUVs...it was weird, maybe PHX had an abundance of trucks that they wanted to rent out? I dunno

I fly in and out of Phx a lot. Fees are high just like in Vegas due to the consolidated rental facility.

Having said that you should be able to do much better as the time approaches. Cheapest rental in phx is usually fox. Go to carrentals.com to compare and keep checking.

I know a few years ago one of the taxes they tacked on in Phoenix was for the stadium the Cardinals play in. Probably still on there.

Love living in a country that was founded on several beliefs, like opposition to taxation- yet the government still tacks em on every chance they get.

B999900 is the AAA discount code. A359800 is the AARP code. If you belong to AARP make sure you tell them, AARP includes damage to the vehicle above $3500, you cover the first $3500, which is covered by PDW for $9.99 a day.
