I've been curious for a while why The Donald has not received a gaming license in LV for his hotel. What enemies and what circumstances led to this? This is just one of those fill in the blank puzzlers that I've been curious about for a while. Thx......

I don't think his hotel/condo building was built with the intention of ever having its own casino... but he was part of the ownership group that bought New Frontier, which was next door to his building, and that was supposed to have a casino when it opened as The Plaza.

As far as getting his own gaming license in Nevada: his repeated bankruptcies would prevent him from qualifying for a license.

I'm not sure if DT would qualify for a license in Nevada or not, though his partner Phil Ruffin should would and has... but my understanding is the same as Auggie's; there was never any intention of making the Las Vegas Trump a gaming property. There were two-(2) towers of condos planned at the on-set and the recession killed the plan for the second tower and the first moved into the "hotel" business as a way of rescuing the investment. BTW... after an extended period of time where they stopped marketing the condos due to the depressed market, I believe they've re-opened their sales office.

The Donald has never gone bankrupt, but companies he has owned have

and if BKs prevented a casino license in Vegas there would be pretty much no one left to get a license in Vegas amongst the major casino companies since pretty much all have gone BK at least 1 or 2 times if not more

Trump (or any other owner/partner in a casino) does not need a gambling license to operate a casino - but the entity/people over the gambling function do need to be licensed. The SLS is a good example. Officially, Nazarian (SLS managing partner) does not have a gambling license. He's applied for one but it's still in the review process. Yet, SLS is obviously open for gambling and will gladly take your bets. Nazarian simply has someone else (on contract) who is licensed running his SLS gambling operation. If and when his gambling license is approved, he can take over that function if he chooses.

Trump claimed to have gone through the licensing process in the past and was eligible at the time. But the casino company has gone through two bankruptcies since then. He wasn't trying to even open a casino this time. He was instead trying to capitalize on the condo market that had already bottomed out by the time Trump opened and could've been predicted before they broke ground. They never even built all the units he originally intended. I am pretty sure there was supposed to be another tower.

While never having been to the property, I think it is a beautiful building as I drive north on the Strip and it towers over Treasure Island.

I am looking forward to the North Strip being developed so it will be worth my time to explore the Trump. Although it is probably as exciting for non-guests as Vdara.

By the way, why did they name it Vdara?

According to Wikipedia: "The 'V' in Vdara stands for 'Vegas' and 'ara' is meant to evoke established high-end boutique hotels, such as the Aviara or Vicara."

I am probably completely wrong about this but,.... I always heard he can't get a gaming license because of Steve Wynn. Something to the effect when Mr. Wynn was young and doing his thing in AC, Trump tried to make it difficult for him.

The "rumor" is that Wynn still holds a "grudge" against Trump. And because he is so powerful in Vegas, he has essentially been able to keep Trump from obtaining a gaming license.

No link or source, just what I have heard and read on the internet.

They are both going to be guys with huge egos, so its easy to see them butting heads on some things... but when Wynn and Encore are at capacity they send their overflow to Trump.

Not sure if thats a sign they don't hate eachother, could just be that Wynn wants to send his overflow to a higher end property and at the same time not to one of the competition, IE: not to Bally's or Palazzo where they have casinos.
