    My Trip Report

I thought I would write this as a tribute to the staff at the Trump Hotel.

In September of 2014, I went to Vegas for a convention. It was a convention for wedding professionals and it was held at the convention center. I was going alone and booked the hotel on hotwire. I got a great deal on a room at what ended up being the Trump Hotel just off the strip. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't a full casino/resort, but that was my fault as the description of the hotel clearly didn't list casino as an amenity. Regardless, I was excited to stay in what I assumed would be a nice room/hotel.

When I got there, I was put on the 16th floor directly over the pool (which I believe was on the 8th floor). The 16th floor looked as though it was the lowest floor with actual rooms/guests as the other floors were parking/spa, lobby, etc. I had a great view of the pool and the room was beautiful.

The second night there, I was pretty tired from being at the convention all day. After a quick dinner at the Fashion Show Mall across the street, I decided to be good and go to bed early as I had to be up early again the next day. I went to bed around 10PM and was 'half asleep' when I heard water running. I didn't think much of it and figured it was a shower in the adjoining room or perhaps a running/flushing toilet.

Shortly after, I heard a lot of noise in the hall. I thought it was 20 somethings partying in the hall and I was starting to get a little upset. After 10 to 15 minutes of this, I had had enough and decided to peek out the door and call the front desk. When I sat up and put my feet on the floor next to the bed, I was startled that I was standing in water about an inch deep. As I got to the door through much more water, I realized the noise outside was the maintenance crew cleaning it up. I opened the door and they asked how my room was. Under water was my reply. It took about 30-40 minutes of scrambling, but I eventually got moved to a different room on the 42nd floor. Apparently, a pipe had burst down the hall and flooded the entire floor with water.

I was very fortunate that I had hung my clothes up in the closet/dresser and my laptop bag was off the floor (I tend to leave it wherever I drop it) but this time I had put it on a chair.

The only belongings of mine that got wet were my dirty clothes and a little bit of my suitcase. The suitcase was dry in an hour or two after moving to the new room. The Trump staff took my wet clothes and had them professionally cleaned and returned to me the next night.

On top of that, they refunded one night's stay back through hotwire which showed up as a credit on my card.

Finally, the room they put me in was amazing. It had a separate bedroom, full (small) kitchen, dining table, full living room, two bathrooms (master had a double headed shower), and an AMAZING VIEW OF THE STRIP!!!! I was in a room where ONE thing comes to mind, and I was BY MYSELF! That part sucked.

But, I give credit to the staff at the Trump Hotel for an amazing job under less than ideal conditions (we had to take the service elevators down to the first floor and then get on different elevators to go back up due to safety concerns with a flooded elevator shaft).

Man, my first thought is they only comped you one fricking night! That entire stay should have been free with a couple of meals included.

I was thinking that maybe it was because of the rental through the third party? I don't know, I've never done that.

Perhaps I should have argued it more. I only paid $70 per night. I didn't ask for the refund at all, but I ended up in a suite that was probably a $200-$300 per night room normally for $70 per night (less if you factor in the refund).

All things considered, I'd you did fine. Another mgr on another shift might have thrown in some food too, or not. If I could be inconvenienced on every trip for a couple of hours on my first night to have that night's charged waived and moved into a full suite, I'd go for it every time. I'd also say the suite at Trump would go for what you mentioned or more.

    Good Luck!

    Getting a night free
    Set of clothes cleaned
    Awesome suite

Thinking that was pretty good... especially since it was booked 3rd party.

Thank you! I was pretty pleased with the results. Again, the only problem is that I was alone. It was a room you just want to do "what happens in Vegas" stuff in and I was by myself!!!

Unfortunately for me (but fortunately for me and my wife), I am too good to do naughty things even when it's tempting!
