I haven't done the math on this and I have always played Pass with odds and placed 6&8 (if they don't come) the rest of the time I play come with odds until the old dreaded number 7 come out. Is this sound strategy ??. I have also see people hedge their bet with one don't pass equal to the money they will put on place bets and pass with odds after the second roll then throw come bets after that,Hopes are that you will knock the heck out of those come and pass bets and avoid the Dont come but if a 7 comes you will not lose as much....whats your take...Place bets pressing...or Pass/come bets with max odds ???? (all of this assuming your on a 3x4x5x table)

The advantage to come is if the 7 comes on the come out you get your odds back. I've saved thousands on hot rolls because of that.

The other advantage is getting your bets out there more slowly so PSO doesn't hurt as bad.

One of the biggest disadvantages is your rating suffers immensely since they don't rate the odds.

The other disadvantage is when somebody rolls all the numbers once and spreads you out and then SO you get killed.

I do place bets. I'd rather choose my number, than let the dice do it for me.

I've always placed my bets, staring with the 6/8 (or a 5/9/x when the point is 6 or 8)...I never play the come.
I've been told by a lot of friends (& family too) that I'm doing it wrong. That I'd get paid more with a come bet than a place bet.

The answer is: "Not the way I play". I place the 6/8. I 'same-bet' that combination twice (once each) and then press them both on the next 2 hits. Then repeat.
What I've found is that they seem to come up about 6 times total between the two of them before the SO.

So - with come-bets, I get 4 total wins and with place bets I get 4 total wins, except that two of my place-bet wins are for twice as much money as the come-bets would be.
Also - every time they only come up once each before the 7, I still win (a little)...the come bettor loses on his 6/8.

Shifter - quick question: are you saying that you do not lose the odds you take on a come-number when the SO comes? (EXAMPLE: 6 rolled. Your Come bet moves to the 6. You take odds on that 6. Then a 7 is rolled. You don't lose your odds?)
I must be misunderstanding your post.

For long rolls, where numbers come up multiple times (4x or more each), the come-bettor has an advantage over the place bettor.
It just seems to me that those kind of rolls are far more rare than the ones that last just a little while, with numbers only coming up 1-to-3 times.

I like the come bet over place bets due to having a tad better odds and due to the hedge factor. If I have made a come point. My next come is pressed. If a seven comes on my come out roll, then this will hedge my pass line money. If I win a second come bet one more full press. Even though I am pressing fully twice, it is a nice hedge if the roll goes 70. Also as I am pressing my come wins I will increase my pass line odds.

Besides the come being a nice hedge at times. I also like my bets to come down after a win. This gets the chips in my rail where I can calculate my pressure. I have left a lot of money out on place bets in the past due to pressing and not taking.

Overall my strategy is built on larger pass line and come bets but only a1x-2x in odds The odds bet has a so called house advantag of zero, but I have won alot on my come out when pressing the house money.

Ps - I usually play 1 come bet or 2. My only place bet will be a 6 or 8,usually when the point is a 6 or 8.

There's no denying the math, the come with odds is a lower house edge than any place bet. But of course with the place bet you get to choose your numbers which is nice but that comes at a slight house advantage. If I'm playing at a place that has 10 or 20x odds, if a place bet wins and I want to press, I put the money on my odds instead. If the point is 8 I place 6, if 9 I place the 5. But understand the place house edge is ALWAYS higher than a come/pass line bet.

No only on the come out. So once the point is hit if the 7 comes you lose your come bets but get the odds back. It's just more of a reset than anything but I've found once that first 7 is rolled the next one often comes on the next roll.

the odds don't come back after the point is established, only on the come out which is usually off at that point for Place, Buy And Come bets and their odds.
    me too
you're right, but to each their own, some people like the better odds payout on come bet point numbers, I don't

you don't get your odds back after the point, but the payout is closer to true odds than place or buy bets
which since you can call place/buy bets and odds, Off or Down whenever, is the only real reason to make come bets

on a random or non-rythmic roller? (I believe in dice influence FTW) the dice are blind..the 7 is going to appear with the same probability regardless if it hasn't shown in a while or 10 X's in a row

I play what is called the iron cross which is a bet on the pass line and the field on the come out roll which has every number covered. Once the point is established I place bets on the field, 5, 6, & 8 so all numbers but 7 are covered. If 5, 6, or 8 come up I lose the $5 field bet but am paid $7 so I can replace the field bet and keep $2. I then alternate between pressing and taking the win. If 12 is rolled I will take 2 of the 3 chips won and place it on the 2 numbers that I don't have covered. It does take time to get used to doping something after every roll but there are times that I have made a lot of money that way.

yes, but after a long roll and then the point, I have all numbers covered with full odds and my place bet buddies are pressed up huge.

the 7 comes and I get all my odds back and they still have their place bets pressed up huge.

then a PSO and I keep all those odds, while they just lost all their place bets.

sure, anybody can take place bets down manually after a 7 on the come out, but nobody does.

everybody is hoping the next roll is just as huge, but it rarely is.

the come bet forces you to take profits, which has proven very good for me a few times.

but just like you could put those come odds back up?...I can have the dealer drop some off buttons on my place bets
(in fact most good dealers will ask a place bettor "Off on the come out?"...my answer is "always OFF on the come out")
6 of one, half dozen of the other...EXCEPT I can take my place/buy bets down entirely at any time and walk
you can't take your come bet(s) down until they each hit or you 7 out

I've tried playing the come once or twice and prefer the place betting over it.

I've seen come bettors have great sessions because of a lot of repeat numbers when they have max odds on it. But I'm more comfortable placing.

I usually do place bets if the table is warming up to be a heater. Otherwise the tables are usually choppy, the worst and most common type.

When the table is choppy, I like to do come bets. When someone PSO's you lose your come bets but win the bet that's in the come area. This helps when the table has everyone PSO'ing within 2 to 3 rolls. It helps "weather" out the choppy conditions until hopefully the table gets warm. I also wait 1 roll before putting odds on a newly established come point. This is my survival strategy. It seems to help.

shifter is saying that people don't usually take their place bets back down during a hot roll.

    1. Hot roll, both come bettor and place bettors have a lot of money on Non point numbers.
    2. Point hits. Everybody decided to be off.
    3. seven on the come out, Place bettors are protected because they are off, Come bettor gets the odds back and loses the base unit.
    4. next roll is Point/seven out, the place bettors lose a lot, because most of the time they do not restart at a base unit after each point is made.

I kinda object to most...Place/Buy bettors are not cut from whole cloth...I've seen Come bettors do crazy stuff after the come out too

I like to think so, but unless the table is scorching hot, you never seem to see a smiling face!

No because you lose the come bets themselves on the 7.

I'm not saying there's any actual advantage to come bets but anything that forces discipline is good in my book.

I've got a question, if I have $25 placed let's say on the nine and someon has a come bet with $25 odds on the nine as well, the nine hits, what's the winnings for the placed bet and what the winnings for the odds (only) for the come? Thank you in advance ✌️
