    My Trip Report

Day 1- We left Montana at 6:30ish and arrived around 8:30. A little confusing trying to get luggage then taxi. Hindsight I would have splurged and gotten the Presidential Limo round trip deal. Would have saved time and energy from beginning to end. By the time we left I didn't even want to deal with taxi's etc. Arrived at NY, NY and had no problem getting an upgrade even though we didn't tip the $20. Went to the room and quickly went down to get a bite to eat. Went to America and had the best calamari I have ever had. We thought we were getting $3.00 draft beers but failed to read the sign close enough ($3 after 12:00 on Monday) That was my first realization that this was not going to be cheap. Dropped close to $60. Asked the bartender were we could get some beer and he told us of a 7-11 down the street. Left there for the strip. Walked around checking the sites. Saw a group of young people with 12 packs and they advised that 7-11 was just a bit away. That is when I saw how dirty this place was. Beer bottles, water bottles, porn cards you name it. Decided to go further and made it to Bill's Gambling hall. This turned out to be our favorite place. Always entertaining and the beer was good priced. Watched a live band there for a while and decided we better head back. (During this first glimse noticed the abundance of police which made us feel safer especially watching them literally take down an unruly patron who was throwing beer bottles) Got an 18 pack and went back to the room. Decided to head to the Nine Fine Irishman well because I'm Irish. When we first passed this place they wanted a $15 cover charge but it was around 2am and admission was free. Had a pint and closed the place down at 3. Thought it was best if we got some sleep.
Day 2-We were looking foward to eating a good meal at some point and decided to just grab a bagel and coffee. We decided to just walk and check out the buildings/architecture. Did the Bellagio, then on to Ceasers Palace. Walked through all of them thoughly as there was a lot of cool things to see. Had one of the best Margaritas at Ceasears and just sat and people watched for a while. Couldn't tell you how many people we saw wearing thongs(flip-flops) and heals! Twas truely amazing as I was wearing hiking shoes and although my feet were fine my calf muscles were letting me know that I should have done some major walking back home. Decided to head back and check out the shops along the way. Getting a little hungry and wanting to save money we stopped at McDonalds. Cheap and filling. Did some more checking stores etc. I can tell you I do not understand the facination people had with the M&M store. Hard Rock cafe was pretty cool IMO. Got the kids a couple of tee-shirts from there. Met Jerry Springer and got a picture with him. Pretty cool dude. Decided to head back to get ready for the evening, plus it was HOT. We wanted to do the strip clubs and read on this site that Spearming Rhino could pick you up in a limo and waive the cover charge. Called and no one answered so we figured we would just taxi there. Got glammed up and went an got a taxi. Basically $40 round trip..a little ouch. Then we got there $50 per person with two "free" drinks. YIKES! But we were there and what the heck. Beautiful girls I will say some more friendlier than others especially if you are tipping. Got hubby a lap dance with was $20 and I tipped her $10. Met an Aussie there that was a hoot! He was awfully entertaining. After all that it was time to go back (I was also running out of money. By this time I was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep..hubby did not. :drunk: In the end though I woke up in my own bed naked and him in own bed fully dressed. The next morning was truely my waking up in Vegas moment!
Day 3-What the hell happened last night! Ugh we had better eat something stat! Made it down to literally the first breakfast place Din-Sum....yeah chinese breakfast buffet but I was not complaining. I wanted to go to the MGM to see the tigers and they were adorable. Went to the Luxor to check it out...pretty cool. Wanted to see the Bodies show but I honestly could not get a straight answer from one person on the price of the tickets. Everyone is literaly trying to sell you a time share! Hindsight...if you want to see something, get your tickets on-line ahead of time. Saves a head aches. Then on to Manadaly Bay to check out the Reef Aquarium. Holy crap what a walk! That place is HUGE! Saw the aquarium and it was cool. Not too expensive and entertaining. No flashing lights or preople selling you stuff. Left there for our journey back to the hotel. We definetly need some down time as it was hot and our legs were SORE! Watched a little TV and needed to relax badly. Decided we best not waste anymore time and went to the dueling pianos. That was a must see! We laughed to much. I will never forget the guy from Chicago. Very interactive and fun. Then finished there set and we decided we had better eat again. Went to Gallaghers, it was yummy. Had to set out again as I was super full and needed to move. Set out again to Bills and watched Karoke. Left there to go back to the hotel. I wasn't quite ready to call it a "night" so we sat at America till happy hour was over...eck 5am. Time for bed.
Day 4- Ready for home. Motel check out was 11 and our plane didn't leave till 3:30. What to do? Nothing really with all your baggage might as well head to the airport. Hind sight not a bad idea as it took a while to do the shuttle, go through security and eat at California Pizza Kitchen. Made it home safe and sound.

What would I have done differently? Stayed at lower key hotel and bought tickets ahead of time. I wish I had known that the water quality was crap. Buy your water at a store or street vendor, NOT the hotels. Would never take my kids there...I am not a prude I just don't think kids really belong there.

    Hi Longears,

Thanks - nice report. Here are a couple of tips:

#1 - Luggage - if you have to check out many hours before your plane leaves or arrive before check in you can leave your bags with the bell desk. They will give you a ticket and you can go enjoy yourself without having to drag your bags around with you.

#2 - Misc Expenses - as you found out, your misc expenses (taxi's, tips, water, beer, etc) added up. On future trips you may want to consider a rental car - you can run to a grocery store off strip and stock up on snacks, water, beer, etc - you can find rental car's are not too expensive - basically 1 trip in a taxi w/tip per day would be about the same as for the rental car - of course it's not an option when you are drinking, but you can plan around it. With the rental car you can also head downtown, do a day trip and get off the strip to see that there is more to vegas than just the strip.

Anyway, thanks again for the nice report.

Not a huge gambler but did drop a couple of bucks...I know weird. Where I live gambling is legal so just doesn't do much for me?

Didn't even think about the front desk holding my luggage, not sure why?

The rental car would be a must next time. My only concern is navigating the city. Now that I have a feel for the whole thing it would be a must do next time. Also it would have been nice to cruise to the dam to relax rather than go back to the motel.

I generally feel like you have to go there once to see what it is all about then make poignant decisions. Unless of course you have a tour guide :peace:

    Nice Trip report. Thanks!

We prefer renting a car and it really is not bad at all getting around the city. You really can not get completely lost because of the hotels on the strip are just -not- hard to miss. :haha: They make a good reference point.

If you want to get somewhere fast.....forget trying to use the strip, but once you learn the parallel streets....it's pretty easy to get to where you want to be. A driving trip up the strip at night is a must....in a convertible if you can. :wink

Parking is a breeze. When we had a run of several trips a few years ago, we always did the valet parking, but this last trip we just found it faster to self park and sometimes even closer than hunting down the valet.

Was this your first Vegas trip? It sounds like you covered a lot of ground. Try staying mid strip next time. Yes that walk through MB to get to the shark reef is a very long one. We went once and that was nice but once was enough for me. The lions at MGM I always enjoy. Thanks for posting. :)

last week we took a cab from Mirage to the Shark Reef, and had to walk back to the front of the resort.

    It is a hike!!
