The short answer: No. Could Vegas lose a big show, certainly. But overall, its still going to remain the trade show capital of North America for the very reasons listed in the article.

Agree. My association has a yearly clinic/convention that rotates locations. It goes to Vegas every 4 years or so. It's always the most widely attended. Mostly due to cost and eas of getting to convention from airport.

Some conventions regularly rotate the parts of the country where they are held. I would think vegas is always in that mix for the rotating conventions just because its vegas. With the vegas nightlife, it will always be in the mix for any convention

The trade show I work with my husband every year goes to Vegas every few years as well. However -not in the next few years because the Vegas conventions are overwhelmed and driving hard bargains - priority given to those who'll guarantee annual bookings. So our trade show said "see ya" (for now, I hope - Vegas is so much better than anything else, though I do like Orlando & New Orleans....)

Vegas knows it's the best location and they're making conventions pay for the privilege. And not all are willing....

I recently attended a trade show at the LVCC, it alternates with Chicago each year, typically 30-35k visitors annually. Many of the exhibitors I spoke with said they do more business in Chicago and that Vegas attendees aren't in a business frame of mind. I know several exhibitors who skipped the Vegas show this year because the quality of leads didn't warrant a return. They will be exhibiting in Chicago next year.

Personally, I can't stand the layout of the LVCC, it's too chopped up, it doesn't flow like McCormick Place. Then again, in Vegas, I've never had to wait for a bus in 9 degree F temperatures with a 25 mile wind coming off Lake Michigan.

But this article reads like a typical scare piece to rally the public for public funding or risk falling behind the competition.

I had one show at LVCC, several at Mandalay Bay, and one at Sands (ugh, logistics are awful there).

Our show is in February and always someplace - well, if not "warm", at least not frozen - we're always south of the Mason Dixon line ;-) Though every single time we've been in Atlanta, we've had a snow and/or ice storm. And we'll be there Feb 2016, so fair warning:Þ

Yup, a couple colleagues went to the Poultry Show in Atlanta during the ice storm (2014??) and it was a complete disaster. The highways were a skating rink, flights cancelled, few attendees.

I'll be at the HIMSS tradeshow (large Healthcare IT show) in early March. it's at the Sands. Then back again for March Madness. I love/hate tradeshows there. I'm usually working and it kills my gambling time. :)
