    Hello all,
    I kind of branched into this in a separate thread about the ARIA, so I thought I'd start one more relevant to this particular subject.

    My wife and I are going to Vegas Jan 15-18 for our 5th anniversary. I'm in the process of booking everything, but I'm stuck on hotel. I have it narrowed to two....Cosmo and Planet Hollywood. I know some of you may be thinking Cosmo....duh. But hear me out. Here's my dilemma;

    I can book a one bedroom terrace fountain view at Cosmo with flight and everything for $1650. This is the only room type I want at Cosmo. I like the setup, the bathroom, and of course the terrace is cool...but the view is number 1. On the flip side, I can book a fountain view room at PH, flight and all, for $1300. The standard fountain view room is unacceptable for me though, I want the "resort vista fountain view" I believe it's called (there's a couple youtube videos that show room 2080 I believe...that's the type of room I want at PH but apparently you can't reserve it?)

    Here's a few considerations I'm taking into account: I can book the Cosmo and be done with it all, book closed, end of story. The only thing I can think of MAYBE on the Cosmo would be booking a cheaper room and seeing if they'll do a free upgrade to one of the one bedroom terrace suites for free??...but I doubt it. I would think I would have more luck at PH asking for the resort vista room at check in and possibly getting it (and for free), but I don't know. Does anyone have any experience upgrading at either Cosmo of PH? With it being mid January I don't expect it to be THAT busy so I'd think I have a shot, and maybe they'd have some compassion it being our 5th anniversary (ha). Also being mid January, temps in the morning and evening will get cold fast and so the balcony at Cosmo kind of become irrellavant in a sense...but not that view!

    $350 is a lot of extra gambling, so when it comes down to it if I can get the PH resort vista suite for $350 less than the Cosmo one bedroom terrace fountain view I would do that. But that's why I'm posting here...for your expertise. Am I missing anything? Are there other factors about each hotel I'm taking into account? Am I dreaming thinking that I can get a free upgrade to the PH resort vista? Is it possible I could get even better upgrades than the two rooms I mentioned at either hotel for minimal fee? Advice please!!! Thanks!

    Book Cosmo. - it's miles ahead of PH, room quality-wise.

    The 17th/18th of January is a busy weekend. Book the room you want. Upgrades will be scarce.

    The month of January is very busy in Vegas. There are many conventions and also NFL Playoffs.

    I stay at Planet Hollywood about 10 times per year and do love the atmosphere. Cosmo 1 bedrooms are my choice when I stay there 3 or 4 times a year.

    There are very few Resort Vistas that have that view (room 2080), maybe 10 to 15. That view is only available on the top floors and they are the northern most rooms of the shorter towers. I could almost guaranty you could not get upgraded to one of these rooms without a host being involved.

    If I were paying and the room was an important part of my vacation I would pay the extra for they guaranteed room type at Cosmo.

    That weekend is between two big conventions...CES and SHOT Show. CES takes place the week prior, so you may not run into any of that crowd. SHOT starts that weekend with Industry events, and the main convention starting that Tuesday. Not sure when AVN is this year, so that could add to the crowd if it is that weekend. In general, while SHOT is fairly big, it does not generate traffic like CES. I think there may also be an implosion scheduled that weekend, but not positive...i may have mis-read an article.

    I agree that that weekend will be busier than you're expecting. AVN convention starts a couple days thereafter. So some folks may come to town that weekend in advance of the convention. Plus, its NFL conference titles weekend. That will add something to the crowds
