    My Trip Report

The second weekend of March Madness is a yearly trip for this group of 8. All of us are late 30's early 40's and we all have been to Vegas plenty of times throughout the years.

Normal I would skip over the flights but this time there and back where not fun. My wife had to go to San Fran earlier in the week for business so there went my companion upgrade to first class, no big deal.

Preface: When enclosed in an aluminum tube with other people in close confines, PLEASE NO FARTING and PLEASE SHOWER!!!!!!

Flying out of Detroit to Vegas is always packed and the way there I was some what sandwhiched between 10 guys who thought it would be ok to see whose farts where the smelliest!!!!!

Flying home on the red-eye I was next to a guy who probably last showered just before Ronald Reagan left office. At least I slept, but still...... With my wife having to rearrange her flying schedule we were separated again.

McCarren airport baggage claim agains gets my SLOWEST in the world award. From the time we deplanned until we joined the taxi line was just under 60 minutes!!!! At least they are consistent. They have to be extremely under staffed, because what is so hard about plane-cart-conveyor belt-me. All the other airports seem to get this concept.

With my wife flying in a day earlier she met us in the lobby with a much needed round of drinks. By this time my nose had fresh air to smell instead of stale smell of ass.

    Thursday:
The Cosmo doesn't have a traditional race book, they have a smaller one on the second floor, seating is around 25, layed back atmosphere and they have a satellite booth by the middle bar, Which is where we hung out. The good thing about the book is for every $10 wagered you got a free drink. The day was mostly spent loitering, gambling, drinking, and telling lies. I did pretty well overall on thursday with gambling. I hit almost all of my basketball bets and stayed afloat in the casino. Eating was nothing special, the menu at the bar was very good and kept us going for the day.

    Friday:
Once again the basketball bets kept hitting, every prop and 2 team parlay hit. It would have been better, but all the single game, more $$$$ games lost. Half of our group is into clubbing and the other is not. So my wife and I took another couple to see LOVE. We have seen it before and for me it is the best Cirque show. Our seats were up close and comped, had to use Express points since we weren't staying at an MGM property this trip. Dinner was at STACK, which was good. The other half went to MOON??? at the Palms. The did bottle table service, they liked it, but I can get a bottle of Goose/Kettle for $40 not $500, and I will be going home with my wife no matter what. Maybe I would understand this if I was single, maybe?????

    Saturday:
Nothing special. Just gambled around the Cosmo, but met up with the ladies at Diablos at Monte Carlo. This was where the gambling Gods finally found out that I was in town. Us guys could not find a seat, so we went to the bar in MC, where the DDB VP was a personall ATM. I hit 4 4OAK's in about 30 minutes. 4 aces and 2's no kickers, kings and queens, but every two pair went to a full house, flushes and straights were filled in. A few thousand or so later the ATM stopped working. Went back to the Cosmo for some crap action to see one of the ugliest hookers shooting dice. They had 2 tables open with only room at one, which she was on. I am not kidding that every toss she did, her boob fell out. EVERY SINGLE TOSS. Now normally this would be a good thing, but it was terrible!!!! Even the dealers wanted her off the table. With out an open crap table, I pulled up at LIR and thank god I did. Without hitting anything special, ie royal flush/ 4OAK. I pulled a bunch of yellow chips of the table and almost filled the dealer tip jar full. We ate or should I say went to STK for dinner, half of us left. We had reservations for 8:45 and were finally sat at 9:45. This pissed off the women to no end, especially with the attitude of a 23yr old hostesses. I finally left after ordering a drink which did not come for another 30 minutes and the amp from the DJ booth was under my seat. All I could feel and hear was bass, boom boom boom. I am at dinner or the club??? We have been to more 4 and 5 star resturants then I can name and none of them had the music so loud that I could not talk to at least the person next to me.

    Sunday:
We got an extra day, check out 6pm, since our flight was not until 11:30. We spent all day wandering around, drinking gambling here and there. BLT burger was good and hit another streak of 4 OAKS, no hand pays.

    Hotel:
    Pros-
The Cosmo is a boutique hotel that I don't think has found an identity yet. The rooms are awesome in all ways, plenty of people have posted pictures of them already. The beds are comfortable, bathroom was nice, and I like the condo feel of the room. All the people were friendly, the different bars and their setups were cool. The art that is placed all over is a nice touch as well. The casino itself is very small. Limited carnival games, 4 crap tables, 6 roulette wheels. The high limit room was quite. I don't think I counted more then ten of us at once and I never had another person playing with me. Bacc. which I played and won for the first time was quite as well. The hidden pizza place is very good as are the buffet, Henry, Sushi place (forgot name) and the all the bars.

    Cons-
With the casino not being big, it could get very busy to walk around very quickly. This should die down as time goes on. STK rest. was a bad experience and we won't return until the DJ booth leaves. The biggest beef that we had and by talking with the Hotel Manager, my host, dealers, bell hops, etc... is the excessive noise and all the DBags 20 somethings that are in the club. The club is up stairs by the resturants, not off far from the casino like most other places. Every night the placed was flooded. It was hard to walk around because in order to get the club you had to walk right through the middle of the property and no one could see you because everyone had sunglasses on inside. Two types of people wear sunglasses inside at night: 1. blind people and 2. assholes. and why do they have to walk 6 people wide??? One of our couples had to switch rooms because all they could hear at night was the bass from club. On sunday I was talking with the manager and she said that from day 1 almost everyone has had the same complaint and it will only get worse, since the club is now open on Monday night and the dayclub is opening soon and management knows that the club crowd gives them no real money or time on the tables. The hotel is worried about people not wanting to return and since the Marquee owners are paying their lease on time Deutsche Bank can't get rid of them. If you are staying there ask for a room facing north and no where near the day/night club.

Overall the trip was a great get away and the Cosmo is pretty cool. I know some of our group will never return, and some said maybe. As far as me/wife, I don't know. Our host comped our next stay up front, but the night time scene and atmosphere kills the overall vibe of the property.

Thanks for the report. I think Cosmo needs to decide if they want the club business or the hotel / player business.............

Wouldn't they have sound proofed it better when first building the place?

Thanks for the TR. Where is this pizza place?

Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed your take on Cosmo. I only visited briefly during my last trip, and unfortunately didn't get to the pizza place which I've heard from many people that it's great!

One would think they would have sound proofed the place, but it wasn't supposed to have a nightclub, just condos.

The pizza place is tucked in between two resturants on the 2nd floor. It's not hard to find, the place is pretty small compared to all the other strip hotels. I am a deep dish guy, but the thin slices were tasty, especially after a few cocktails.

Good report. I was there the same time you were. Would have to agree with you with all the kids around the night club. Didn't really bother us because we are from a rural area where there are no people!!! Its kind of nice to go somewhere that is so different from home. Those young girls sure due dress different today than they did when I was that age! Before we booked the Cosmo I had read in the reviews about the noise from the club so we asked for a west tower. Noise was not a problem there. Our friends were in the east tower and had the same problem as you. We had a good meal at STK. We had early reservations on a Sunday so getting seated wasn't a problem. The music was also a little loud. Better luck with STK next time, the meal was great!

Nice report, the service at STK would have annoyed me as well.

    Agree about STK

Enjoyed your trip report very much.

We had a similar experience with STK...lackluster service with poorly prepared food. Had to keep asking for water. WATER!!!
We enjoyed our room so much back in January, we're paying to stay a week there this June.
I'll be sure to get the north side of the tower again, since your TR is not the only one to mention club noise.

I agree Love is the best CDS show...seeing it for the fifth time, and Terry Fator for our first.

Yes, the balcony is Cosmo's edge.
    Thanks for writing.
