    My Trip Report

This will be my first trip report as I am new to the Vegas Message Board and have not written a report since college some 30 years ago so please be kind with my grammar and style. O.K. lets begin.

We flew out of Omaha on Thursday the 24th and had a direct flight and arrived at 2pm that afternoon in Vegas. Walked down to the baggage pickup and met up with our limo driver. I always rent a limo from the airport because I don’t like the long taxi lines and the stress of the drivers trying to long haul us. We also had Donnie and Marie show tickets to pick up at the Flamingo so we had the limo stop there so I could run in a pick up the tickets before taking us to the Cosmo where we will be staying for four nights.

We arrived at the Cosmo around 3:30 and went to the front desk to check in. I had a standard terrace studio booked and Abby at the desk told us that our room was not ready yet. She said she did not know when it would be ready and would call us when we could get our room. I though what the heck a preceded to get out a $20 and try the trick and asked Abby if there was any way she could up grade us to a room that was ready now. She did some checking and said, “I found something and I think you will like it“. We said as long as we can get in right away, it will be fine. Abby thanked us by shaking our hands, so I slipped her the $20 and we headed to our room. Boy did we get an upgrade!!! It was a terrace suite with a north strip view along with the Bellagio fountain. It was the nicest room we ever stayed in while in Vegas. We are now spoiled. :nworthy:

We then called our friends that we were meeting in Vegas. They were from Dallas and also staying at the Cosmo. Kim is my wife’s friend from college and Duane is here husband. Kim is a character and says exactly what is on here mind (sometimes it’s good, sometimes NOT!) Duane is very laid back, and would have to be to put up with Kim. We love them both and travel with them once a year. We met up with our friends and went to the Identity desk to get our players cards and went to look around the casino. While my wife and friends were looking around I went to the casino cage to deposit my front money. My wife does not gamble much but will play the quarter slots. I gave her $500 to start and am sure she will have money left when the trip is over. (Gambling money that is, she is a professional shopper) My wife has to be the only person I know of that comes to Vegas with an empty wallet. For years I have never gotten a players card at any casino or received any comps. This message board made me realize how stupid I have been over the years. Although my bank roll was not as big years ago, it has grown to a level where I should be getting something at a higher tier hotel. I only gamble when I am in Vegas. We never go to any local casinos, and make a Vegas trip once a year.

We go to our dinner reservation at Jeleo. This is the first time we have been to a tapas restaurant. We ordered a number of dished between the 4 of us and shared them all. They were all excellent and would highly recommend this place. After dinner, my wife and Kim went to Donnie and Marie and Duane and I went to try out the tables. I sat at a $100 table and Duane just wanted to watch. Played for a couple of hours and was doing pretty good until I got a pair of 7’s against a dealers bust card. Had $300 bet so split the cards. Got another 7 so split again, then got a 3 and a 4 on two so doubled up. Needless to say nothing good on my hands and the dealer did not bust so took a big hit on this hand.:grrr: Played a few hands more and cashed out $500 up to start the trip. Went to the craps table and played a few hours, up and down but then hit a good roll and cashed out about $1500 up. Had a casino host stop by and told me if there was anything they could do to let them know. First time I ever had contact with a host. Was starting to get drunk by now and was thinking I’m going to play more BJ. Either going to bed up $5000 or going down $2500. Played for another couple of hours and went to bed at 3am down $2500 for the first night.

Friday: Woke up the next morning about 9 am and met friends for breakfast at the Henry at 11:00. After breakfast we all walk over to the Crystals shopping center next door to go to the Louis Vuitton store. My wife gets a wallet to match her new purse that she bought in Naples Florida in February. We then just walk around the shops and head over the Aria to check out the hotel and casino there. We kill pretty much the whole afternoon walking around and then get ready for dinner and the Lady GaGa concert. We ate at China-Poblono which is a Chinese-Mexican fusion place. We ordered quit a few dishes to share between us. There were a few good ones but over-all we did not care for the food. I’m sure it was good but not for us.

We then head to the MGM for the Lady GaGa concert and all I can say is OMG!!! Only in Vegas! Enjoyed the show and the crowd was almost as entertaining as the show it-self. Glad we went but probably would not go see her again. The four of us are in our early 50’s and though we would be some of the oldest people at the concert. We were wrong. There were many people older than us there. Maybe they were there for the same reason we were. Just to see the diversity of people at the show rather than being big GaGa fans. We get back to the Cosmo at around midnight and my wife and Kim and Duane play slots and I go to the BJ table. I was tired so played lighter than the night before and went to bed about Even Steven at 2am.

Sat: We got up at around 10am and met our friends at the Henry for breakfast again. This is going to be the big gambling day for Duane and I and my wife was going to go shopping. Our son is getting married this summer so she wants to find a dress in Vegas for the wedding. Kim hates to shop so she stayed at the hotel and played the slots. My wife hung around for about an hour and played a $1 slot (very rare) and hit for $250. She put $20 in the machine so a nice profit for her. That was her clue to head to the stores. Duane and I hit the craps table. What a cold table it was. Duane lost his buy in so he quit. I played for about two hours before we could find a hot roller. For once that roller was ME!! I was probably down a couple thousand before I got the bones and was into a good 30-45 minute roll when my wife stopped by all excited about the dress she just bought. No need to say what happened next. 7 OUT!!!! Still a nice run and cashed out up a couple of G’s before we had to get ready for dinner and our show.

We went to the room to relax for an hour or so on the balcony and then went to DOCG for dinner. It was great. We all had a great meal and would highly recommend. We then headed over to the Mirage to see Ray Romono. Enjoyed his show and thought he was funny. I always liked his TV show and his live show did not disappoint. We walked back to the Cosmo at around midnight and the girls and Duane played the slots for a while. I went back to the Craps table to see if I was still hot. I wasn’t ! Played a couple of hours and gave back the casino what I won that afternoon and then some. Thought I would give BJ another try. I was feeling no pain by now and though I would hit the table hard. Was up and down and playing with a fun bunch of guys. I was playing heavier than normal and was a little upset that I could never see anyone from the pit watching our table. I asked the dealer to make sure to have someone rate us because I had a lot of hand out over $500. Considering the points I received the first few days, I think I got screwed on my rating/per hand on this session. It was now 5am and made back most of what I lost in craps so time to go to bed.

Sunday: I am not used to these kind of hours so when we got up at 10:30 I put on a pretend happy face:kiss: because I was hurting. Met the friends for breakfast/brunch at Henry again but could not eat much. After breakfast we walked around the shops in the Cosmo for a while and the wife found another dress she liked. It was gorgeous and expensive. But though what the hell, she has been putting up with me this whole trip like a trooper so we got the dress. Now we need shoes and she though some nice pearls would go well with the dress. She does not have real pearls so we are going to put that off till we get home. We then walk over to the shops at PH and pick up a few things and then walk up the strip for a while. We come back to the Cosmo and I play the quarter slots for a while with my wife and our friends. I ordered a drink, but it went down pretty slow but I kept my happy face on. No one hit anything on the slots so we went to our rooms to take a little nap and relax before we head out to dinner.

We decided we have had enough funky food and decided to eat at STK for dinner. Our friends were celebrating there anniversary so it was to be a special night. Kim had the Lobster and the rest of us all had steak. We have all eaten at top tier steak houses around the country and this place is second to none. We also had a couple bottles of wine and about 4 sides and salads which we shared with each other. We also ordered 3 desserts to share. We all had a wonderful meal and would highly recommend this restaurant. After dinner we went and played the quarter slots together. I was dragging and was in no mood for craps or BJ. We had to fly home the next morning and had to leave the hotel by 9am so an early night was called for.

Monday: We woke up about 7:30 to pack and get ready to leave. I got out the host card that was given to me earlier in the trip to see if there was anything she could do for me with the rooms. I just got a voice mail, so I left a message. I then called hotel services and they told me to go down the VIP services and see if there was anything they could do for us before we checked out. We went down to VIP services and there was no host available to help out but the guy at the desk took a look at our account and said I made Gold Level Identity on my first weekend and that was pretty good. I had 22,000 point. Our restaurant points and shopping points were not on there yet because it takes 24 hours after purchase to show up on our card. I told him to use the points toward our room and to my surprise he took off another night for us. This was my first comp. I was kind of excited, but I don’t know what is good or bad. It does get better. We then head to the air port and have an uneventful flight home. While we are driving home I get a call from the host at the Cosmo. She wanted to tell me that she was going to comp another night for us. That was Great! I felt the trip went pretty good. Lost a few bucks but have had much worse trips and had 3 of 4 nights comps of a terrace suite.

This is a brief score card:

My wife lost $300 of the $500 she started with.
    My wife spent $2000 shopping,
Kim lost all her bank roll
Duane lost all his bank roll
    I lost about $3000

Loved the Cosmo. First class all the way. I can understand why some people might not like it, but it was right up our ally. Different strokes I guess. Great service and would highly recommend!

Already can’t wait to go back but will probably wait until next winter.

I want to thank everyone for the good advice they gave me about comps before we went on this trip. It really paid off. Sorry if the report was too long and boring but I felt I owed this board a trip report. I enjoyed writing it and want to thank you if you read it.

    Good Luck to you all!!!

Just a side note: All our meals were eaten at the Cosmo. I failed to say where the restaurants were for each meal. Sorry!

I am from a pretty conservitive area in the Midwest. Nothing like that here! After being there it was no place for kids. They would have really gotten an education. The show was pretty good. It was a good production.

Nice report and glad you like the Cosmo. We liked it overall, but like in my report it needs to find an identity. It looks like STK mellows out a little on Sunday's and the people in our group who did stay enjoyed it.

Excellent report. Thanks for posting. It's good to read a report with plenty of gambling activity, sorry it did not go too well.

I'm going to spend more time at Cosmopolitan next trip and am thinking of trying Jaleo. A lot of reviews comment on the noise level being so high that it is not possible to hold a conversation - how did you find it?

Our reservations were always early at all the restaurants due to us having early show tickets. We never had a problem with the noise at an early sitting but I know a latter sitting would be much more noisey.

I did not go but my wife did and she loved it! She had good seats at a table in front of the stage. She said Donnie walked on there table and she got to shake his hand. She said she wanted to marry Donnie when she was a kid so she was quit excited. She said the show was wonderful. She also said Marie looked pretty hot too!

Thanks. We may go for a 6.30 rather than our usual 7.0/7.30, to get out before the volume gets turned up too loud.

Thanks for the Report Craps, understand what you mean being from a conservative area, SD as well. My wife wanted to go to the lady gaga concert, I am glad we didn't although that would have meant I would have been in Vegas. Anyway, thanks again and congrats on the comps.

Great report. Thank you for writing.

Wife walking up to the craps table is an automatic "I'm off."

We also enjoyed our recent stay at Cosmo. Had a few service issues, but the casino/restaurants were great. Amazing views from the terraces.

Donny and Marie is a good show

Thanks for the TR. I am willing to see Lady Gaga once. I will see most of the new performers once.

Good luck on the comps. Remember, Craps comps will not equal slot comps unless you really lose a LOT at Craps and play a LONG time.

As for Donny and Marie, I highly recommend the meet and greet. Also, rarely, you can catch Mr. Osmond working out in the fitness club.

As for restaurants, I always am just about the first one seated. My body clock enjoys a 5:30 PM vegas dinner.
