I have had two recent incidents that I was wondering about. Both were in the buffet line at one of the riverboats I frequent.

In the first one, a woman approached me as I was getting in line for the cashier. She asked me if I was paying cash for the buffet. I said no, I had a coupon for a free one. That shut her down, so I never heard her pitch, but was suspicious.

The second one, a guy in front of me bypassed the cashier (who was taking care of a couple) and went straight to the host without a receipt. She sent him back to the cashier as I approached her. He offered to pay me half of the cost of the buffet if I would buy him one using the comps on my players card that I had in my hand (I have the middle tier of a 5 tier system). He was carrying the lowest level card. I said no and he seemed taken aback by this. i just ignored him after that, as I did not trust him.

Unless I'm missing something the second guy just sounds like a weirdo. I'm all for "creative discounts" like sharing a 2 for 1 coupon with strangers or whatever. But those comps are worth 100% of their value to you, there's no reason to expect a sane person to accept half the value.

First case I'd say the woman was just trying to earn some cash off her comp.
Buddy of mine and I were standing in the regular line at some CET buffet and were approached by a guy who wanted cash,he led us through the vip line, comped for 3,we paid him price of one single and once seated,he left.
Years later my buddy and I thought of doing it ourselves with the buffet day pass from CET but never got around to it..never even used it.

second case sounds like someone was trying to get a cheaper meal..

But in AC, Ive seen people offering 1/2 off for cash buffets before, just trying to convert comps to cash..

    I've done something similar...
At a casino in Reno, if you use COMPS the buffet is ½ price...so I would routinely "sell" buffets for 3/4 price in order to squeeze out comps (The people didn't care because they were getting ¼ off of their buffet that they were going to pay cash for anyone)

Other places, if I have a 2:1 and I'm single, I'll see if I can't find another patron to split the cost (hey, ½ off for each of us!)
On a funny note...I actually found a date for the night doing that once, LOL. (albeit this was in Carson City a long time ago, lol)

I think you're being overly skeptical about this lady. I've done this when I had an extra voucher or something like "2 comp entries" when I'm solo, which get sent every week from AC casinos. I'll ask someone around me if they're paying cash and if they are I'll just give them the voucher. I'm not looking for anything and its not a hustle, just no point in seeing something go to waste when it can be useful to someone.

I have a couple of free buffet coupons good till 3/31

good at GN AC. I was going to give them away the other day but they have numbers on them so I'm guessing they have to match up to us?

I'm thinking the first gal might have had a BOGO coupon and was looking for someone to split it with her. Used to be buffets would honor a BOGO to a solo diner if they paid half the cost of the buffet. No longer. If you have a BOGO coupon, you'd better have someone with you or they won't honor it.

    Second guy? Weird.

I really didn't know what to make of the lady. She caught of guard with her question, but the ideas mentioned here are ones I had not thought of (2 for 1 coupon, selling her comps, etc.).
