    hi,

we have stayed in the tower room at el cortez a few times and really liked it but wondering if the room at main street station or california are nicer?

el cortez would be total $40 cheaper for our nights than the other 2.

I have stayed in both a tower room at El Cortez and a standard room at MSS.
I haven't stayed at California yet, but I recently started a thread asking how their rooms compare to MSS - so perhaps you can crosscheck if you care to.

In my opinion, the El Cortez tower room and the MSS standard room are about the same in terms of "niceness."

The bathrooms at MSS are slightly bigger than El Co, but not by much. The El Cortez tower room safes are keycoded, whereas the MSS room safes have a key.
The room I had at MSS had a fridge, the El Co tower room did not.

As you know, the El Co tower rooms feature that nice little alcove with a loveseat and coffee table. The MSS room I had featured two reading chairs and a small cafe-type table. The MSS room didn't have the alcove though, so I perceive the El Co tower room to be a bit bigger.

Both the El Co tower room and the MSS room featured an old, CRT style television. The MSS room had it within an armoire.

The El Co tower room and the MSS room both have a desk.

One thing to consider is that these properties are on opposite ends of Fremont Street.

Also, El Co will give you a free ride back to the airport in a Lincoln Town Car (provided you're not checking out on a Saturday). As far as I know, MSS doesn't offer this service.

One last thing I noticed when staying at MSS (March 2012): The towels smelled like burning. Nothing overpowering, but noticeable. Perhaps they use a really high temperature dryer?

I stayed at all 3 properties before.

IMHO, the el cortez tower rooms are a little larger than the cal or MSS rooms. As Jimbo mentioned, at the El cortez you have an area with a loveseat and coffee table (in addition to a desk area), while at the MSS and Cal you only have a table with 2 chairs. I liked that at the el cortez, you can swivel the tv around and watch it while lounging on the loveseat, reading your newspaper with your feet up on the coffee table. the el cortez also has a car service to take you to and from the airport, something the Cal and MSS doesn't provide.

Last I remember, the el cortez tower rooms looked a little outdated and dark, while the Cal renovated their rooms not long ago so it looks a little brighter than the el cortez tower rooms.

Depends on what you want and where you want to stay also. The el cortez usually has the lower prices but is farther away from the FSE. The Cal is nearer the action and close to the various hotels and casinos like MSS, LVC, binions, etc.

The west tower of the cal has a larger bathroom than the MSS and El Cortez. Fridges are standard at the Cal and MSS, while you need to ask for one at the El Cortez (and no guarantee you get one IMHO). I asked for one at the El Cortez prior to check in when I made the reservation. I had to ask again at the front desk at check in and it took almost 3 days before I got the fridge.

IMHO, if the prices were the same I would rather stay at the Cal or MSS since I like the MSS craps tables and hawaiian food in the area but usually I find the rates at the El Cortez to be a lot lower so I've been staying there lately.
