We have never stayed there, not going to rule it out either. I guess my issue was the kids that ran around MC D's like some of you would if there was no two drink minimum at the Rino..LOL We spent the day at the dome and went through the arcade. Hubby's family gambled a lot there and i think we went over to the Guinnessbook of world records place. It's not that i hate the place, i just happen to like other places a bit better.

Exactly. It's just the overall negative vibe of the place. Like, if KMart had a casino, it'd be like CC.

I haven't priced CC rooms in a while but saw I could get rooms at The Quad for $14 the last couple nights. I'd imagine Excalibur is probably similar in prices to CC. If I'm staying in a cheap old room I'd rather have the better location.

The one time that I stayed there was 15 years ago, the room was very nice. Circus Circus was the first casino that I ever gambled in. I remember I won over $300. I thought I hit it rich.

I have not been down that way in maybe eight years or so. But, I remember having some good times there. I don't understand all of the "hate" for a lot things in Vegas, including Circus Circus.

We have a division in our family. My wife detests CC :yuck:, I like the place in small doses. We have never stayed there but have visited 10-12 times. Our last visit was a few years ago and may have been our last ever.
OK, the wife hates the place because she hates clowns and she feels the place is dirty and overrun with rugrats (unsupervised children). I like the place because I enjoy the carny games and the circus acts. For years, my wife would suck it up and tolerate a visit to CC for me once each trip. This was a lot easier when the Westward Ho and the Stardust where near by. We would make it a "old school vegas" day and bounce around the places. After the other places were dozed, I had to do a lot more cajoling to get her to agree to a few hours of CC entertainment.
Our last visit was a few years ago during our annual Christmas visit to Vegas. We were playing some carny games and I noticed that Santa was sitting on his chair posing for pictures a short distance away :santa. There was no line and he seemed a bit bored. I turned to my wife and asked if she wanted to pose with Santa for a great Christmas picture. Her response was an invitation to me to perform an act by myself that is physically impossible and I think prohibited in the Bible. In any case, I am a charmer, and after about 20 minutes of begging and pleading (as a married man of over 30 years, I am very skilled in those actions) she agreed to sit on Santa's lap and pose for a festive Christmas picture. I stood in front of Santa as my wife begrudgingly shuffled over to sit on his lap. I held the camera up just as she sat down. She sat down on Santa's lap and Santa took her hand in his, turned toward the camera and smile. Immediately the expression on my wife's face changed from one of indifference to one of horror and anger :grrr:. I asked to her smile and she glared at me :cuss: . Realizing that my life and 50% of my belongings were in danger of being lost i quickly snapped the picture and said "Great. Thanks honey". She jumped off his lap and ran over to me and said "touch my hand". I grabbed her hand and it was soaking wet :yuck:. We walked around the corner and she turned and looked at her butt. Where she had sat on his lap was a huge wet spot :vomit:. Santa was apparently a bit sweaty (at least i hope it was only sweat). As we hurriedly walked down the ramp from the second to the casino floor, she let loose a series of expletives that would have made a Marine blush. As we made the long trek to the car I made numerous promises to make amends including a special steak dinner that night (not at CC) and a special day at the spa that included a 2 hour massage.
It was a very expensive visit and we have not returned and probably never will.

I feel this way about a lot of Vegas as well. The more I think about it, the more I think I may need to make hitting CC and Slots O' a priority during our next trip just for the heck of it.

for me, it's all about location and CC, The STRAT and LVH lose in that category.

I agree with this sentiment. We stayed at CC and Westward Ho our first several years. Loved that we could visit so many low roller places easily. My best Vegas memories are from those early trips. Loved ending the day by having a Ho dog at 3am or a strawberry shortcake at Silver City. Back then the North Strip had a downtown vibe decent rooms and gambling. I don't go there now because they have torn down most of the properties. Slots a fun is nothing more than a Pool hall with Beer Pong and slots now.

We visited CC again this spring and thought they had upgraded the place and machines some. The "Pink Pony" was one of our favorites for breakfast and the prime rib special has been replaced by a western BBQ joint. The kids don't bother me unless the parents are dragging them around after a reasonable bed time and I see that more on the strip then in CC.

IMHO the Riviera is the place that needs a reality check. Bad gambling and unfriendly employees is my experience there. In that location you need some reason to go and I can't think of any.

I always found the Boardwalk Casino more creepy than Circus Circus. With Boardwalk, you walked through a clown's mouth to get into the casino. Also, the smell in that place was so foul.

You pretty much said it. I would rank it below Excalibur.
Although I still visit Excalibur it at least has a much better location.
I guess being clean isn't as important as location.

While I understand the part of the complaints people make about kids everywhere, I have to say that when I was there several years ago (had 2 teenagers with me so we spent part of a day there so they could hang out in the Adventuredome), the kids were concentrated there and not in the casino where I assume most adults hang out.

Like CC, I see a lot of complaints about the Stratosphere hotel, which I happen to love. Everything from people claiming it's dirty there (none of the 3 times I've stayed there it was), the clientele is all rednecks and lowlifes (again, none of that in my stays) and finally that all of the rooms are garbage. Again, nope.

I like dingy low roller joints but not like this.

I tried Circus Circus again on my last trip just to see if it was as bad as I remembered and it turned out to be worse. There were kids running in and out of rows of slot machines everywhere and the clientele in general seemed like they had a room temperature IQ or had appeared on the faces of meth website at some point in their career. I couldn't wait to get out of there and on my way.

It has nothing to do with low rolling. I had just come from the Riviera where I had a perfectly fine time playing low limits and hanging out with other value minded gamblers.

I hope that doesn't hurt anyone's feelings but that's just how I feel about this place. There is quite literally no other place on the strip which gives me bad vibes like that place. I'm one of those guys who is happy to play at both Casino Royale and The Wynn all on the same day. There's all just different flavors of Vegas for me.

If only that were true, lol. KMart is smoke-free.

I find Circus considerably more depressing than the average casino, and that's an accomplishment. I feel sorry for the kids. I realize they don't care, and their parents probably chain-smoked in the car throughout the drive to Vegas, but the entire property is pathetic.

Sure, other casinos are smoky and filled with scumbags, but at least the other properties undergo some type of occasional cleaning.

Although it's been a couple years for me, I find the Reno incarnation of Circus Circus to be somewhat more tolerable. It's smaller, but it adjoins two other casinos for variety.

I wouldn't say I hate CC, because that would imply that I care. I did walk through last trip for the first time in awhile, and most of the things that I disliked before seemed to still exist:

    1) Not many table games open, even though there were plenty of players and the tables seemed full.

    2) Narrow walkways through the casino make it extremely crowded to get from one end to the other.

    3) I of course did not get a personal update on the buffet, but it sure looked to be the same as always. I had this buffet on my very first trip to Vegas, and when our group saw the food thermometers in EVERY vat of unrecognizable glop, we were pretty scared (we also were young and broke and had already paid, so we stayed, but it was awful).

The Stardust was our home base for a long time and we loved going to Silver City, the Riv, and the craps game out front at Slots O Fun, but we just never felt any desire to go into CC.

HA! I forgot all about the Boardwalk. I used to hop between MGM and Bellagio a lot and stopped in their a couple times for a quick bite. They had this little short order grill near the front that made some mean sliders and cheesesteaks. I barely remember what their casino looked like though. Just that the place was a serious dive.
