I am 2 days out and got an email saying I can check in online and they would text me when the room is ready. Anyone do this, and do I have to then still get in the sometimes giant line just to get my keys? Is this worth it? side note, my plane lands at 8:30am, so I have no intentions of getting a room that early but that's why I thought this may work for me

    cheers!

I used the online check-in for Cromwell 2 weeks ago. Got an email when I landed that my room was ready and pick the keys up at the front desk. No lines at Cromwell so I don't know if Harrah's has a dedicate line just for keys or not. The only downside I can see is if you are going to try for an upgraded room.

Very good question. Im coming this weekend and I got the same email. Let me know how it works out for you if you arrive first.
Side note: I guess this would also cut out trying the $20 trick too.

I don't think we'd do it because there would be no chance for an upgrade or at least no chance to "pick" your room location. We always like a high floor and I wouldn't take a chance on getting a low one with no view.

I believe there is an alternate pickup location for keys by the front desk. The information should be in your email, but I believe last time I got the email it said they could be picked up by where it is marked "mail".

A month ago at Bally's i got a text on my phone saying that i could now check in, about 2 pm. I accepted (on my outgoing text), but then realized i wanted to upgrade to Jubilee, so i just waited in line till 4 pm.
Upon further review, the lovely young woman that waited on me in which i used the tip, said it wasn't necessary. I could have gone to my Jubilee room at 2 pm.
But then i came back with "but maybe the clerk wouldn't be as nice as you are and not accepted the tip to a Jubilee room".....LOL.
In November i'll be at Flamingo, i now know that if i receive a text at 2 pm (that's when i arrive in Vegas), i'll still be able to use the tip for a GO room.

I prefer to do the regular check-in.
As others have mentioned there could be possible upgrades or doing the onLine reservation may take longer.
If doing the face to face check-in you may be able to request a room on a different floor for an early check-in if you really wanted.
Also, I have read other saying early check-in will cost you onLine.

FWIW I tried to do the same thing at the Rio in May. Signed up for it. Our plane landed around 9:00 a.m. Picked up our car, got some supplies from a grocery store, ate lunch. Hadn't received the email yet but decided to head over to the Rio anyway around 1:00. No line, our room was ready and we checked in. Never did get the email.
