    Hi all,

It will be my first time to vegas soon, and I want to ask your help. Usually the first thing the taxi drivers ask you is if its your first time in the city, then probably they proceed to the long haul.

We are going directly to cosmopolitan from the airport.

What is the cheapest taxi route , honestly we would much rather prefer uber but it seems they are not working yet in vegas.

Roughly how much should we expect to pay?

Also, I prefer to tell the driver that we have been to the city before, are there any other tips or tricks?

    Thanks!!

Vegas is one of the most expensive cities in the US to get a taxi.

You would think 10-12 bucks but I'd swear it seems the rates have doubled since we used to frequent the strip 7 or so years ago.

Come in at the wrong time and it can be more. Traffic can be brutal.

No. We didn't sit in traffic, the meter ticks faster.

We often paid just over $10 to get to Harrah's, now it's estimated at over $20. (Tip not included.)

Is this meant to be a joke?

Less than $20 for most places on the strip. Try going from Denver Airport to Downtown Denver. OUCH!

Scroll down the page. You will find the answer multiple times - which I think you already know based on your long haul comment.

My tip would be: if its your first time to Las Vegas don't worry about it or try to ruin your own trip before its even started over something as lame as Las Vegas long hauling.

With Las Vegas the thing is: the airport is *RIGHT THERE* next to The Strip. If you do happen to get long hauled it will typically add $2-5 to your cab fare from the airport to your hotel, which is such a small amount that you could easily pay the same amount or more if your taxi took the shortest and most direct route to your hotel but you just happen to miss a light or two on the way and have to wait the full cycle or hit a spot of traffic (there is always construction going on around Las Vegas).

And then by comparison in almost every other city in North America the airport is always way out in the middle of nowhere so the cab fare is already going to be running you $40-60 and a long haul in that case will usually add another $20-40 on top...

Las Vegas is a fun place with lots to see and plenty to do, and while there are things to complain about (the price of a bottle of water at the casino gift shop, how expensive a can of coke is from the hotel vending machine, a $50 bottle of vodka at your local liquor store costs 10 times that in a club) you should more worry about having a good time if its your first time there!

I like the advice about not worrying too much. Just say "no tunnel" and don't worry about it. Enjoy the awesomeness that is Vegas.

Better yet...get a limo. Presidential is great but raised their rates a lot--we will do a limo arrival and Town Car exit. We're too tired to be excited when we leave anyway...

    Enjoy...

My first ever time in Vegas I long hauled myself because I asked to go up and down the strip to take it all in initially.

Like a few others have said - relax and enjoy, it won't be the only $5/10 you lose :)

Ouch, you're not kidding about their rates. That's a major bump compared to what I paid last time.

But, yeah, best is to just tell them Cosmo and no tunnel. If they do end up taking the tunnel(highway), then you can fight them on the fair. But, you also have to think if that's the best thing to do right as you get there.
